My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOTE: This is a courtesy posting for another rescuer. Please do not contact ARRF, as we do not know this pet personally. To meet this pet, see the contact information below.

Jake is an adorable 10-year-old, 16-pound, Shih Tzu/Havanese mix. His owner passed away. Our rescue can tell Jake has received very good care. He is a mellow guy. He is housetrained, and he knows the command to sit. He seems to get along with all other dogs and probably would be fine with cats although we don't know for sure.

Jake has been diagnosed with early-stage pancreatitis and must be on a low-fat diet for life with regular vet visits to monitor his condition. Jake recently had one eye removed but is doing fine without it. He has no other health issues.

He is fearful of small children and reactive toward them, so he needs an adults-only or adults/teens-only home. He can be very vocal when he wants something and will bark to get attention. He is good on a leash and loves long walks. He does not like being crated or penned and will bark if confined. He is very loving and ready to be an integral part of his new family.

We suggest a home with adults only or adults/teens only for Jake. This dog cannot be adopted out of state. Please see our home page for a list of our Saturday adoption sites. Every potential adopter is required to fill out an adoption application and the dog is placed in the home that would be most suitable for the dog. We do not place our dogs in homes with unfenced swimming pools. Generally, we don't release the dogs at the adoption site that day except on occasion to former adopters.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please email FCIAadoptions@aol.com or call 619-466-9137.
