We need a foster for Toby - please contact Rescue Rep Dave, 415-686-4248, david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net
Background:We were incredibly impressed with this guy’s good-nature when we pulled him from a central valley shelter where he’d been picked up as a stray. Likely a lab/shepherd or lab/collie mix, Toby is proving to be a fabulous companion. Not sure what happened to the rest of his tail, but what is left sure knows how to wiggle and wag.
Toby has been in a Lab Rescue foster home for nearly three months but the foster is headed out of the country for two months, so we need a new foster for Toby for all of April and May… or we need an full-on official adopter to take Toby for good.
Oh give me a home, where the central valley stray dogs don’t roam.
Where the Labs and other doggies can play.
Where owners will keep… a comfy bed so Toby can sleep.
And the county shelter is far, far away.
Home, home for the Toby.
Where the bones and the dog toys are free.
Where love and care abound, and great owners can be found.
And Toby’s future is filled with glee.
What Toby’s Foster says: What a gentle easy-going soul. This happy-go-lucky guy is a joy to be with. He loves just relaxing with me as I work around the house. He is love bug and thrives on pets, hugs, and brushing. He walks very well on leash and can go quite far with good energy. He loves everyone - human and canine - and bonds quickly. (Seems to be a cat chaser so a no-cat household would be best.) He rarely barks, not even at the mailman. Toby happily sleeps in a dog bed alongside my own bed – he loves bed time – don’t we all! He does have some occasional coughing bouts during the night and sometimes regurgitates water after he’s had a long drink – we think these behaviors are due to the tumor that might be slowly growing and exerting more pressure on his lungs and heart.
What Toby’s Rescue Rep says: Toby does not know he has a tumor; he did not get the email. Toby lives in the moment and loves life, loves walks, loves dog parks, loves people. We want to Toby to thrive for as long as he can.
Medical Information: Toby is current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered. He has been diagnosed with a large inoperable tumor in his chest cavity next to his heart and lungs. Our vet is unable to predict how the tumor will behave and when it will significantly Toby’s quality of life. Some might call Toby a hospice dog… but his active nature and love of life sure does not reveal any demise in the foreseeable future. Toby might live another six months; he might live another two years; he might outlive you.
Toby is located in: Berkeley.
