Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET DOLLY! She is one of 20 dogs rescued by UYR recently from a horrendous puppy mill in Southern Georgia. Dolly is a miniature Schnauzer/Yorkie mix - a Snorkie - who is approximately 8 years old and weighs a skinny 9.6 pounds. She is being fostered in St. Augustine, FL.
UPDATED BIO 04/14/2019: Dolly is enjoying her life in her foster home where she has been for 6 weeks now after being rescued from a puppy mill where she spent all her life. But she doesn’t understand why no one has been interested in her – she is patiently waiting for the right person to see her and who wants to love her forever and always.
Dolly loves playing with the other dogs, and she especially loves being outdoors – and being free for the first time in her life, running and feeling the wind in her face. She has started taking toys out of the toy basket and is learning how much fun it is to play with them. So far, Dolly isn’t your typical lap dog, but she definitely wants to be near her person and will follow her Foster Mom around as she is moving about the house. When her foster parents go out for a while, she gets very excited when they return, even if they only went to the mailbox and back lol! She is definitely enjoying being a beloved companion dog in her foster home, but she is still hopeful that very soon, she will be going to her forever home.
Dolly is a very smart little princess – she is both leash and house-trained, which is quite remarkable for a little girlie who lived in a puppy mill her entire life – this speaks to her resilience and true grit. Wow. When Dolly walks, she prances around and reminds Foster Mom of a show horse strutting her stuff.
Dolly is an adorable little Snorkie. She has a beautiful coat that is silver-gray and white, with splash of brown on her face. Due to poor nutrition all her life, her coat is thin and fine, but now that she is getting a quality dog food on a regular basis, her coat will likely thicken up and be even more beautiful. She will be having a professional grooming soon so stay tuned to learn more about this little princess who waiting, waiting, waiting for someone to scoop her up and be her Adoption Hero. Could that be you?
PLEASE NOTE: Dolly has let her Foster Parents know that she needs another doggie companion in her adoptive home to show her the ropes of being a beloved family member and to be her buddy.
UPDATED BIO 03/12/2019: Dolly is learning what life is outside of the horrible puppy mill where she spent her entire life. Since this property was operating as a puppy mill, inhumanely breeding dogs to sell for profit, many of these dogs were highly sought-after small breeds, and there were a hundred or so yorkshire terriers, maltese and yorkie/maltese mixes, in addition to many other small breed dogs.
The UYR members that pulled Dolly were shocked and saddened at the inhumane conditions in which these dogs were living. The property had more than 700 dogs being housed in a warehouse in too-small crates – with more than one dog per crate, and stacked one on top of the other. A majority of the dogs pulled were suffering from malnourishment, sores and abrasions, severe dental disease, matted hair, infections, severe eye injuries, congenital diseases and general severe neglect. The smell alone of the poor dogs was enough to cause a person to be nauseous and these dogs lived 24/7 365 days a year in this environment.
Fast Forward 10 days, and we are happy to report that Dolly is doing so good in her foster home. Foster Mom heard her bark today for the first time, and was relieved to know she could bark and hadn’t been cruelly debarked by the puppy miller. She has been vetted and thankfully is HW negative – hooray! Dolly is skinny at 9.6 pounds and would be a healthier weight if she gained a couple of pounds, and that shouldn’t be a problem since she loves to eat. Out of a bowl – a great accomplishment for a puppy mill dog who never experienced eating out of a bowl. WOW.
Dolly has decided that she likes going for walks, and she is curious about the outdoors since she’s never experienced being able to freely walk outdoors previously. She is even playing with a small ball now – sweet! When Dolly walks she prances around and reminds Foster Mom of a show horse strutting her stuff. She is still fearful of being picked up to sit on laps yet, but she follows Foster Mom around all the time. Dolly is beautiful now, but will be more beautiful once her coat grows in. She is what is referred to as a parti-yorkie and is white, black and a little brown throw in. Adorable.
Please watch for updated postings on all 20 dogs from the puppy mill that came into UYR and who are being fostered in Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. This was a huge endeavor that took a lot of supportive members who all volunteered their time and without our amazing fostering members, we would not have been able to save so many. UYR is very proud and humbled to have participated in bringing happiness and new lives and love to 20 little doggies. The vetting expenses on these little dogs will be huge, so if you have been moved by Dolly’s story and the stories of the other 19 dogs who are journeying toward wellness and love, please consider making a donation to help UYR continue to participate in rescues of this magnitude.
PLEASE NOTE: Dolly has let her Foster Parents know that she needs another doggie companion in her adoptive home to show her the ropes of being a beloved family member and to be her buddy.
