My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dab is a young dog, approximately 9 - 10 months old but is very well behaved, learns quickly and will make an amazing family pet.  He would do well in a home with children that would enjoy playing with him.  It would appear that he was well taken care of in his previous life as he is well behaved, knows his basic commands and listens well.  Really Dabs is an all around great family pet.  He currently weighs approximately 40 lbs.

Here is what Dab's foster family had to say about him:

Dab is very intelligent and a sweet dog who easily adjusted to our home. We love him a lot and look forward to interact with him as much as we can. Dab is very understanding compared to his age and is a very good companion. He understands basic commands like come, sit, go, fetch, etc.  Sometimes he gives his paw as well depending on his mood. He knows when to take us out for his business breaks. He sleeps well throughout the night. We never put him in crate. Never felt like doing that and Dab has so far been a very good boy. Dab prefers to sit in his comfy bed (comforter) in a place from where he can keep a eye on the door, the stairs and unique thing is he never sits anywhere else other than his place (the comforter).  He likes to eat well and along with his dog food he eats any homemade food as well, we used to give him occasionally potatoes and rice which he liked a lot.

Dab is very healthy and has no issues at all. He is very energetic when it comes to playtime and very patient when it comes to quiet time.  Dab's energy level is moderate to high but the best part is he quickly adjusts to the energy level of the home he is in. He can play with you as much as you want and also mind his own things if left on his own.  We take Dab for 2 walks a day not including outside for business breaks.  Dab is almost 9 months old and looks his age as a young handsome puppy.  Dab is very social and super friendly with all of us in the family.  Dab enjoys going for walks.  He is very good with kids he meets on walks and also good meeting other dogs, at least he does not bark like other dogs.

Dab is normally very friendly and most of the time has a good mood. He has gotten anxious on walks when he sees people wearing a hood, whose face he cannot see.  He has not shown any aggressive behavior. He is sometimes nosy though and wants to enter the kitchen to see what is cooking or keeps looking while we have dinner but if ignored during that time then he goes back to his place.  Dab did meet once with my sister's dog which is a 6 month old golden doodle which was bigger in size than Dab. Dab was over enthusiastic to meet him and was jumping and since we both are new and also both dogs are new to each other we kept them on leash and let them interact under close watch. Both seemed to enjoy the playful encounter.  Dab has had no experience with cats while being in our home.

Dab loves to run, chew his antler or bone, play fetch, eat, and sleep.  He also loves a big backyard where he can run freely.  Dab is very quiet when we are at home and only barks or growls in case we miss his signal for business break or when he is hungry and we forgot to give him food on time.  Dab has good attitude and will be a great addition to a active family with kids age 8 and above who can play with him and also walk him once in a while.

Dab does not steal anything, but sometimes does counter surf.  Also, he does not chew anything other than his toys, but there were couple of occasions when he did chew slippers, and a door mat.  Dab knows all the basic commands like come, sit, down, stay, drop it, off, stop , mostly he understands the tone and gestures.  Dab does give us good signals and is pretty good house trained. Although there have been few accidents specially when we missed his signals. He sleeps trough the night on his own in the living room with no issues.  We never put Dab in a crate.  Dab walks okay on leash but does pull a lot and likes to sniff a lot.  If we hold the leash tight then he walks good.  Dab has so far not tried to escape and on few occasions when he got loose on the leash he did come back to us.  Dab likes car rides and likes to watch out of the windows. After sometime he settles down and takes nap in the car.

Dab is super friendly and super intelligent dog. He is very cute and innocent and any dog loving family will be very lucky to have him in their home.  Dab will love a home which has active lifestyle and has kids to play with him.

If you think Dab would be a good addition to your family, please visit our main website at http://www.uglymuttsdogrescue.com and submit an adoption application.
