Kiko - male/neutered - young ( one year of age ) - Pomeranian - 10 pounds - Chocolate medium coat
This dear little guy is Kiko. Attentive and responsive, he is consummately loving, playful and affectionate.
Kiko’s eye contact is full and direct, as if he is waiting to receive an important cue, or possibly a treat. He is an eager participant in every aspect of his foster family’s life - he loves nothing more than to be cuddled and held. He often initiates affection by running directly up to his foster care providers, and laying his head in their laps.
Kiko came into foster care with a trusting and expectant nature, which has provided him with a wonderful basis for learning. He has mastered an excellent “down” and is making excellent progress in his house training, although he will need continued guidance and additional support in this area. With consistency and positive reinforcement, he has made exceptional strides in his training, and we consider him a quick study.
Kiko adores going for leash walks, and is working on excitement reactivity when he meets new people and new dogs. His adopter(s) should be prepared to assist Kiko with continuing socialization opportunities and positive reinforcement in that area.
Inside the home, Kiko is calm and would spend hours in someone’s lap. And he always enjoys a good ole’ belly rub. He is highly treat- motivated, and a good eater.
Kiko loves his treasured stash of toys, but enjoys them most when he can play with them interactively with his humans. He is doing well with crate training, and enjoys a peanut butter and yogurt mix in his Kong. He sleeps well through the night., especially close by or in the same room with his humans.
Kiko rides beautifully in a car. Being with his human foster family is paramount to him, and we are proud of the fact that he has already learned in a short period of time how to settle and relax during their absences from the home. His energy level is appropriate for a young dog - he requires daily exercise and playtime which are followed by calm relaxation indoors.
Kiko will need continuing patient guidance and support from his adopter(s) to maintain the great progress he has made while in foster care. We are recommending Kiko for a home in which the adopters have prior experience in raising a young dog, and one in which Kiko will be provided with consistency and routine, and positive, reward-based teaching. We would prefer a securely fenced yard for him as well, or a plan to ensure that Kiko receives safe and adequate exercise.
Kiko is capable of bonding profoundly, and he will offer himself heart and soul to his committed adopter(s) - you can see it every time you look into his adoring eyes.
