My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rusty is 10 years old and weighs 11.11 pounds. This sweet Dachshund Yorkie Mix (a Dorkie!) is being fostered in Ocala, FL..

UPDATED BIO 05/17/2019: Rusty here with an update…. I am still looking for my forever home. I’m cute and sweet and everyone who meets me just falls in love with me. I am very quiet and polite and I get along with both people and animals. I love to be with my human and I will do everything in my power to please them – yup, I’m a people-pleasin’ kinda dog.

I recently had blood work done and my kidney levels are remaining stable – that’s great news. I am still taking medication (two pills a day) - it is called Azodyl and I will be fine. The medicine can be purchased online and for one month its only $42. I do not have any problems taking my medication, but I am not eating that “yucky” special kidney food. The nice doctor said that was okay. However, don’t feed me processed meat or table scraps cuz that will make me sick. I also have a Grade III/VI heart murmur – but no medications are indicated for my heart at this time. Again …. did I mention that I am the best dog ever?

When I was at the vet’s office, everyone petted me and said how well-behaved I was. They all wanted to adopt me but already had a dog. But if you are looking for a loving and fun companion like me, click on the link below to complete an application and meet me. I am always ready to jump in the car or golf cart and go for a ride on a moment’s notice. What more could you want from a sweet and loving companion like me? I am patiently waiting for my forever family. I hope to hear from you soon.

NOTE FROM FOSTER MOM: Please don’t turn away from this sweet and precious dog due to his age or the fact that he needs daily medication. He is an amazing little boy who only wants his very own family to love. He will reward you with so much loyalty and love………..

UPDATED BIO 04/19/2019: Rusty here wishing a Happy Easter to all my peeps. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how wonderful I am - sorry if it sounds like I am bragging – but I guess I am. I had a bath today so not only am I handsome but I smell like lavender. My foster mommy says I smell so good she could hold me forever. Of course, I wouldn’t mind that but she would have to let me go when I go to my furever home.

Did I remember to tell you that all the peeps at the dog park love me and want to kiss and hold me all the time. Makes it hard for a guy to do his business but I manage. I am a loving little boy who aims to please my human. Also, if you are a retiree, I LOVE to travel and am very quiet. Nothing has changed regarding my health, which means that my kidney levels are holding steady. That’s great news.

My wish for Easter is that the Easter Bunny would find me my forever home. I love my foster family but I really want a family I can call my own. I would make a great companion for a senior who wants a quiet love bug like me. Hurry up and send in your applications. I am anxiously waiting.

UPDATED BIO 03/17/2019: Rusty here - I am SO EXCITED! Why you may ask? Cuz my Foster Mom said that I am ready to be adopted – hooray!! She says that I am the best dog ever. Not to be bragging, but everyone at the dog park agrees. Some of my better qualities are that I am very laid-back. I love to be held but I am just as happy laying in the dog bed or on the sofa with my Foster Mom. I hardly ever bark and I am mostly house-trained, but remember when I move from my foster home to another home, I have to get used to the potty schedule and all the smells in my new home so there may be a few accidents until I know the lay of the land. Oh, one more thing - I love to go for car rides and will curl up in my car seat and take a nap. Bonus! I also get along with both dogs and cats.

I went to the dogtor recently and the nice dogtor said that I have elevated kidney levels and I didn’t particularly like the special food (Purina NF) that the vet suggested, so I will need to be on a low protein diet for the rest of my life. I have such a wonderful Foster Mom and she is cooking chicken and rice for me, which I love. I also need to take a medication (Azodyl Capsules) every day and I will be fine. The medicine can be purchased online and for one month its only $42. I do not have any problems taking my medication. I also have a Grade III/VI heart murmur – but no medications are indicated for my heart at this time. Again …. did I mention that I am the best dog ever?

I don’t like to play – yet - but I do enjoy running at the dog park. I would make a great companion for a senior who wants a quiet love bug like me. Hurry up and send in your applications. I am anxiously waiting
