Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Webster is a 4.5 (estimated) year-old, 8-pound Yorkie boy being fostered in Leesburg, FL.
Webster was one of 20 dogs UYR rescued from a South Georgia puppy mill last weekend. Webster could go on and on about the terrible conditions there and how he had almost given up hope of being rescued. But Webster feels like we have talked enough sadness and he is ready to put the sad times behind him and focus on the PAWSITIVE!
Webster feels like the luckiest Yorkie who ever lived. He could barely see when his rescuers came for him because of the heavy matting on his face and body but he just KNEW something good was happening. Webster put his puppy paws together, said a puppy prayer, and decided to TRUST the hands that gently pulled him from his cage and GO FOR IT! Within hours he found himself soaking in sink full of warm water with gentle hands rubbing him ... and slowly but surely the dirt and matted fur began to fall away. A couple of hours later Webster was FREE and he has not looked back.
Webster is such a sweet, gentle, loving boy who is also very smart. One week ago today he didn’t know how to eat or drink from a bowl, walk on the ground without circling, play with toys, or do any of the things normal dogs do. Webster is learning things at an amazing pace. His fur brother and fur sister have been working overtime making Webster feel welcome and teaching him how to “Dog.” Webster now sits in laps and gives kisses, eats and drinks, from a bowl and goes up and down steps. Webster is not house-trained AT ALL and due to his years in the puppy mill he will probably be very challenging to house-train.
Webster has been to the Dogtor and other than some skin issues, gunky ears and moderate tarter on his teeth he is in surprisingly good health given where he came from. He does have bilateral luxating patellas and it is likely at some point in his life he will need to have these surgically fixed but the Vet does not recommend surgery at this time. He was a good boy at the Vet and gave everyone kisses. Today he had his first ever professional grooming and he did great.
Webster will be neutered and have his dental on March 25th so it will be early to mid-April before he can go to his FUREVER home. Webster’s foster Mom asks that anyone considering adopting read up on what to expect when adopting a puppy mill dog so there are no surprises. Because of the life Webster has had up until now, foster Mom will be very, very picky about who gets to adopt him to make sure that the REST of Webster’s story will be one of unconditional love and nothing but happy endings. Webster’s care costs to get him to a healthy, adoptable state will be around $1000. Webster would LOVE any help towards those and thanks everyone who has donated so far!
