Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mason is an approximately 1 year old neutered male Border Collie Mix. This is an active dog and needs an active home to help him thrive. Mason is actually a world traveller and was rescued off the streets of Costa Rica and was made healthy and then placed up for adoption.
As we said, Mason is very active and loves to popcorn around and trounce about like Tigger! One day, he was goofing around and slipped on the wet pavement and dislocated his hip. He was in an Ehmer Sling for 1 month and was crate rested and leash walked for almost 3 months. The last month (December 2018) he was allowed to slowly increase his exercise until he is back to full activity level. The veterinarian said that he shouldn't have any problems in the future but we did want his potetial owners to know that he had this accident.
Mason is like a ping pong. He does everything at a fast pace and he bounces and trounces everywhere. (The wonderful things about Tiggers is they are fun fun fun fun fun!) He will need a lot of mental and physical exercise for him and his future owner to be happy. He has slowly started to calm down in the house and now knows that outside is for bouncing! In his foster home he has been learning how to fetch to burn off some energy and they take him on short runs, or long walks at least twice a day. This is not an apartment dog, he needs a yard to run and play in. Mason does live with other dogs and would probably be best with an easy going female dog or by himself. He can sometimes get snappy with the dogs if they try and take away his bone/toy/food but has learned to ignore them if they aren't interested in his stuff. We think this behavior may be due to his life on the streets before coming to the US.
Mason is a little shy around new people. Usually a treat or gentle coaxing can get him to warm up within minutes. The longer he has lived in his foster home, the better he has become with strangers. If he knows you, he LOVES you and is a silly little guy. While his foster owners were on vacation he stayed in a different home and quickly befriended the man of the house as well as the painters that were working on the outside! He was very wary of kids initially but has gotten better with them as well. He may become better with guided introductions to children, but we aren't sure. So we are suggesting an adult only home with no young kids.
He is crate trained, housebroken and uses a doggy door. He comes to a whistle or his name and he is learning to sit and to walk nicely on leash.
He will need a patient owner that is willing to continue his training. This is a fun little dog for the right home.
Mason's adoption fee is $175 plus $10.99 microchip registration fee. Mason is neutered, vaccinated, heart worm negative, and chipped.
