Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Becca is about 8 months old, pure white and gorgeous. She is not fully grown, currently 9lbs. and will most likely gain 1-2 more pounds by adulthood. She looks pure Maltese but of course we don't know this for sure. She is your typical active normal puppy, getting into things, jumpy and barky, sticks her curious nose into everything you are doing. She loves attention and squirms when held because she wants to run run run.
Becca is a special needs puppy and here is why: she came into rescue 1/5/2019 with a broken back. The vet thinks she was hit by a car. She now walks, jumps, is totally healthy and appears to be normal in every way except her injury left her incontinent, at least for now. She does not have control over where and when she pees and poops. There are mixed 'guesses' as to the final outcome -- she 'may' regain her ability to do her business with control if the nerves and muscles are able to heal. She has made some improvement recently: she now does a squat but so far nothing comes out. So I think she may be starting to feel something and definitely wants to make it happen. Vets have said she may never get control, or she may get partial control in 6 months, or ???. We just don't know.
Right now she goes outside when the other dogs go outside, and comes in with the other dogs, whether or not she actually goes doesn't matter, she is still learning. But when in the house she is contained in a fenced in area of the kitchen so she can be part of the family activity. Her bedding is covered with a pee pad if she leaks. She seems to soil her bed when she falls asleep, but when she is awake she seems to do ok. Panties don't contain the poop or I would use them, but so far it isn't practical. She loves to be free to play and run. And boy does she run. She runs and tackles the other dogs who find her to be just an annoying little puppy. Funny to watch!
Becca is available for adoption to the right person who can be patient with her until she regains her ability to do her business correctly and this may be a long road to success (if at all). You will need to work with K9BFF Roseville regarding her spay because she is not medically ready yet to be spayed. She absolutely cannot become pregnant! Her tailbone (L6) is at a 90degree angle to where it would interfere with delivery, and mating could further damage her back injury. We were waiting to see if she gets feeling back before subjecting her to anything surgically invasive, so this makes predicting the future kind of tough.
If you feel you are a good candidate for adopting Becca, please go to our website www.k9bestfriendsforever.com click on "Adopt" to fill out an application. Tell us why you feel you are the best choice for her. Oh, and you must love kisses because she gives tons of kisses...!
