My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Feather

16 lb Sheltie/Aussie mix, 5 months old

He may be a Feather of a dog, but he's worth his weight in gold. With a silky soft coat and the face of a fox, Feather is a charmer that draws oohs and ahhs from everyone.

He is housebroken, whip-smart, and happily greets all new people. He's been left alone uncrated for 5 hours and slept quietly by the door, awaiting our return.

Feather is great with cats that stand their ground, although delights in the chase if they run. He has not displayed any hint of destructiveness, but exuberantly chews bully sticks. At night he sleeps quietly by the bed, uncrated, and in the morning will immediately potty outside first thing. He is not nearly as high energy as one would expect for this age and breed, but thoroughly enjoys long walks and the dog park.

He gets along well with other dogs, and would definitely appreciate a canine companion around his same size. While he doesn't live in a house with children, he has the most gentle nature and doubtless would do well with them. He rides great in the car too! Best of all, this dog is the sweetest, gentle tag-wagging, belly-rub-loving dog you could ever ask for.

Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies.

Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a “teen” or adult dog.

Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.

We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details.

Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
