My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Val. I was about 4 months old and all alone when I was rescued from the street. I was very, very scared and after coming to SBACC, I went to a foster home so I could get used to people and other cats. I spent about 6 weeks in foster care and then came back to SBACC. I’ve been getting braver all the time, and have adjusted to my room and roommates here at SBACC. While the volunteers are trying to encourage me to relax more around people, I still don’t welcome pets or being picked up. I will need a quiet forever home with another cat or kitten and a family with lots of patience who will give me plenty of time to feel comfortable.

Dog adoptions include a written application and an on site interview. All family members, including other resident dogs, must meet the new dog.

The adoption process for cats and kittens includes:
A detailed application.
An interview with the potential adopter(s).
And a home visit, in some circumstances.

To ensure the best possible match for our cats and kittens, all applications are reviewed by our adoption committee and determination can take up to 48 hours.

More about this shelter

We are an all-volunteer, no-kill, non-profit animal shelter formed in 1986 to find homes for the dogs, cats lost within our city limits. We are a California non-profit 501-C3 corporation # 33-0192138 so all donations are tax-deductible.

We are always in need of volunteers and have many areas in which you can share your talents. Please attend one of our volunteer classes to get started.
