"Gizzy is our sweet 20 pound, 11 year old terrier mix. Sadly, we've noticed for the past 3 years (since our first son was born) that Gizzy has not adjusted well to life in a home with small children. And, it has only become more apparent since our 2nd son was born early last year. She doesn't like sharing the attention and she doesn't have the patience for small children. As a result we've had to keep her separated from them (which she HATES being separated from us). After trying various approaches (including hiring an in-home personal dog trainer), we came to the heartbreaking conclusion that it would be best for everyone if Gizzy found a new home.
Gizzy has been well cared for since we rescued her as a puppy. She is spayed and up-to-date on all her vaccines, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick treatments. But, in her older age she has developed diabetes. At first, we were nervous about this diagnosis not knowing what all it entailed. But, it just means that she eats a certain kind of dog food and gets a small insulin shot after her meals. She doesn't mind the shot at all so it's very easy to administer. We have found that the medicine is not all that expensive as long as we buy the generic insulin (approx $100/year). With proper care, she can continue to live a normal and healthy life with diabetes.
Most of her days are spent snoozing on the couch or her doggy bed. She likes chasing squirrels in our backyard and lounging in the sunshine. She will go on a walk if you want but she doesn't love them like some dogs do. So, she's perfectly happy with little to no exercise. She also loves to give kisses and snuggle next to you.
We are hoping to find a loving home where Gizzy can thrive and get lots of attention! Please email me if you or someone you know may be interested. Lindy_collins@hotmail.com"
