My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BEFORE READING THE DESCRIPTION, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE FIRST STEP IN OUR ADOPTION PROCESS IS TO COMPLETE AN APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE AT WWW.SHERYLSDEN.ORG THANK YOU. :)

Roman is a male, approximately 3 month old puppy whom arrived on Feb 9th. Upon arrival, he was18 lbs. His coloring is black tri (black/white/tan) and coat looks like it will be medium in length when he’s full grown. A unique feature is Roman’s tail, which is only 4 inches long. He was a little antsy for the final portion of his trip to his foster home and did a little crying, on and off, but nothing crazy. He was just DONE with being in a crate after being in the care all day. Who could blame him. Roman is being fostered in a home with adult humans, one teenager and other adult dogs.

UPDATE: Considering his young age, it should be no surprise to anyone that he’s not house-trained yet – he is, however, learning quickly and has been doing very well with going potty outside when he’s told to. I’ve even noticed him starting to go to the door on his own when he has to go. Such a good boy! Roman is very good about wearing a collar, he just wishes they didn’t feel so funny around his neck. He’s also good about wearing a harness but the process of getting it on him is a bit like wrestlemania with a puppy. We’ve worked a little bit with walking on a leash, using the harness, and he’s been doing very well with that, too. He doesn’t pull or anything like that, he just wants to see and smell everything – the world is an exciting place, after all!

As mentioned earlier, Roman’s foster home has other adult dogs in it. He gets along very well with these other dogs and seems to understand not to be a pain in their butts. A few of them play with him a little bit but his human fostermama and fosterdaddy play with him much more. He likes to play fetch with toys (the squeakier, the better), wrestling around and tugging – although he doesn’t really tug hard… His idea of playing tug is, holding on to one end of the toy while the other end is pulled. We’ve also starting working on some commands, too. “Sit”, he mastered on his very first night with us. “Paw” and “lay down” are taking us a little bit longer to get down but I haven’t been forcing the issue, either, because he’s already learned so much in his first few days with us. I want to keep the process fun for him.

UPDATE: Roman went for a car ride (separate from his ride home from transport) with his fosterdaddy yesterday and handled it VERY differently than his first time in the car with us. This time, he was seat-belted in the front passenger seat and sat there, like a perfect little gentleman for the entire ride. No complaining this time around because he knew he was going on an ADVENTURE! Honestly, it wasn’t much of an adventure but he did meet some nice ladies at the bank, whom he showered with kisses.

Roman is obviously an ADORABLE little boy; however, he will not do well in a home that is just hoping for a good-looking furkid. He will do best in a home that INCLUDES him as a family member. He is very smart and constantly paying attention to where his humans are, what they are doing and how can he get involved. I’ve noticed him go explore a little bit when we’re in the yard, but within a minute or two, he always comes back to the immediate vicinity of where I am. He is an energetic little boy and needs to be with someone who understands that he will need to burn this energy off – be it by playing games, going for walks or hikes, or something else… What do YOU like to do? Swim? Agility? Run? Roman is that friend who’s down with trying ANYTHING. The important thing is, he wants to be with you. Don’t get me wrong… In the evening, Roman is completely happy with chewing on a bone while you sit and watch TV… BUT, if you need to get up to check the laundry… Expect to have company when you do. You never know when the opportunity for a new game or experience will pop up and he’s not going to miss it if it does! That said, couch potatoes need not apply for this little guy. If you have issues with getting showered with kisses, you should also seriously consider scrolling to the next available puppy because Roman LOVES giving kisses.
