My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Well, hi! I am so glad that you came to learn more about me!

My name is Panda and I am estimated to be a 6 year old Shih-tzu mix. I came to be at NBS Animal Rescue after a very kind shelter reached to them about me. I was surrendered to the shelter after my Daddy died of cancer and nobody was able to take care of me. I was super scared and really unsure of what was happening. But I am SO, SO happy to be in a home with a wonderful foster family! Let me tell you a little bit about adopting me.

I can be a little shy when meeting new people. I just need a little time and space to get comfortable. I have been through a lot you know? But once I am comfortable, I have so much joy to share!!! I am good with kids (children 10+ please) and other dogs. I ignore the kitties that I have met too. I love to snuggle and I LOVE my people! In fact, I am a bit of a barker if I am separated from my people so I do prefer someone who is home more often than not. Since I will bark in my crate if my people are not home, I would probably not be best suited for an attached condo or apartment. When my people are home, I am quiet and not much of a barker at all though!

I am working on my potty training still. My foster Mom says that I am a nervous pottier (not a marker!) If I am left home, I will have an accident but if my people are home I am almost 100% potty-accident free! So someone will need to continue working with that with me in my new home. I am not a big treat guy but I can be a bit of a resource guarder over my food. So no young children putting hands in my bowls please as I would prefer older kids.

I love going for walks, going for car rides and playing in the snow! I have no problem going outside to go potty and snow is super fun to eat too! If you are looking for an attached, cuddly kind of guy who enjoys lounging around the house all day with his people...I AM YOUR GUY!!!! Won't you please put in an application for me?! I promise that I have lots of love to give!

Oh yeah, did you know that I come with an in-home training session from our good friends at K9 Turbo Training (within a 30 mile radius of metro Detroit)? They can help you set me up for success in my potty training and any other things you want to work on with me!

My friends at NBS Animal Rescue are helping me to find the perfect fur-ever home. All of the dogs in our rescue are have different personalities and needs within an adoptive home. Not all of my friends here at NBS Animal Rescue have the same requirements, so if I’m not be the perfect fit for your family- be sure to check out my other doggy friends too! For me?

These are the things I fur-sure need in my fur-ever home!

- No apartments or attached condos due to me barking when my people aren't home
- Family who is gone no longer than 5 hour periods.
- Children must be 10yrs or older
- Prefer a 100% fenced in yard but leash-walking for pottying is fine for me.

If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
