Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Yo! CHECKERS Here!!
I am an adorable black and white Canaan Dog (see link below) and American Staffordshire Terrier looking for my furever home.
I am am just 4yrs old and weigh approx. 50lb - Yes I am a handsome sized companion, I am non-stop loving life and investigating what it can be for me, enjoying every second of Freedom, Love and Playtime, like my foster mom describes me. I am extremely smart, I know some hand commands without humans talking, I am still learning my manners some, I am good on leash, I free feed and allow my handler to bring or take my dish. I will where my leash on my snout so I dont pull my walker, and although I hate it I will wear a my Baskerville Muzzle. I met a wonderful woman named Jennifer Gray who is a behaviorist/trainer and spent the day with her and my rescuers, and upon adoption, my rescue has arranged for 6 PAID sessions with Jennifer at Sunny Day Acres in Santa Clarita!! or if my new family lives in that area, she will do in home training.... I love my Jennifer <3 this will help my new family and I to enter into our new relationship on a positive note.
I am a healthy boy and eat good food, My favorite thing to do is play ball or with my heavy duty toys my rescuer buys me and just hang out with her. I am crate trained, house broken, doggie door and peepad trained. I am happy to sleep in my crate with gate open, and ok to stay in in for a few hours while you are gone, but mostly I enjoy my time with my human very much! and communicate very well with a head tilt. <3 I am a good boy, A Low/medium energy pup, my trainer says we should avoid stress or over stimulation, my rescue works with me everyday around small breed dogs, I do not know why, but for some reason, I absolutely DO NOT LIKE POODLES.
I do require daily exercise, so a hiking, a run or power walk parent would be wonderful, no golf cart or biking runs for me thank you...If you are unable to accommodate playing with me or taking a mellow walk with me, please look for an old lazy dog. Of course a large secure yard with another active lower energy doggie friend or girlfriend {love redhead PB's-heehee ;-)} would be my ideal situation.
With proper introduction, like a long walk or pack hike, I am great with MOST other dogs as you can see in my playgroup video, my rescue has several videos that you can see, and as long as they do not get in my personal space or my face barking. I DO NOT have any bite history what so ever. I love humans of all sizes, would be happier in a home with school age children who understand and respect my personal space and who are not screaming and untrained by their parents.
I have been rescued from a California High-Kill shelter in Downey, awaiting my fate. My rescuer saw me and did one more good deed that day - and saved my life in my final hour, I am forever grateful.
If you do not have a home with a large secure yard, and you will not make me part of your family, or if you are going to leave me outside all the time or alone, or not take me out for my daily walkies or to play with my ball then please reconsider your application as I need daily exercise, a family or human that will take me with them or allow me inside...I do not like being left outside alone, in a dog run or kennel I would rather be in a crate in the house with my human.
Prior to applying, please check with your Home Owners insurance to make sure there are no Breed Restrictions in the policy. If you rent, please check with your Landlord for approval to have a dog and about Breed Restriction, I do not want to fall in love with my new family and then have to leave.
I am waiting for you right here - if you feel I am the one, please use contact info to schedule a meet and greet soon.
Here is information on my breeds, my rescue makes for a 'best guess' in our breeds at the ranch, I have pointy ears and much of the qualities and temperments of both of these breeds.
