Flint has had it rough. I wish he could tell us how he ended up on the street in such terrible condition. He was trapped by the dog catcher and taken to the shelter. I can't help but think of the movie Lady and The Tramp. He was very thin, covered in ticks and fleas. He was also terrified.
In the shelter he stayed curled up in the corner on the concrete floor. He was too scared to eat except at night when the building was more calm. He came down with an upper respiratory condition, common in the shelter environment. Due to his already poor health, he struggled.
ARF tagged him to be transported to Dallas and go into foster care. ARF was not fully aware of his medical condition or the fact he was feral. He was so sick when he arrived that he didn't fight much when pulled from the crate. He was handled with care and started on medication immediately. The shelter had given meds for the parasites so the ticks were falling off. He was eating and drinking still so he needed a lot of TLC and treatment. His foster mom knew that if he was to get loose in the back yard there would be no catching him again. She had to keep a tight grasp on him and he had to stay inside in his crate or in the kennel-run outside.
He has come far. He will come up to his foster mom and sniff her hand. Of course he is food motivated so he will take a treat as well. He will let her walk up to him in his special corner and pet him and pick him up. He travels well in the car in a carrier too. She still can leash him and walk, he will just roll but that may come with time. He is also still a flight risk but he comes home. He has escaped a few times but knows where supper is served. He is no dummy.
Flint is also very quirky. He loves to play. He will play with toys and trash and just about anything he can put in his mouth. He is also very silly about his foster moms shoes. He likes to steal them and put them in his cubby. He doesn't chew them up though! He also plays and has a cute little bark when he gets excited.
Flint is a special boy and needs a special home. He is lucky to be alive and he knows it! He deserves a life with love and security. He may never walk around the block with his owner or crawl up in your lap to watch t.v. but he will make you laugh and smile in other ways. Every little accomplishment is a huge reward. Giving him a safe place to love and live is the biggest reward of all!
All dogs are in happy foster homes so you MUST set-up an appointment by calling 972-318-9650 or by sending an email to info@arftx.com.
