Meet Isabella

Isabella is a 2-3 year old English bulldog mix . We're not sure exactly what's in the mix, but we do know that she is full of life and love!
Isabella is a solid, stocky girl with the cutest whole-body wiggle. Her short legs carry her at amazing speeds, and she can catch an amazing amount of air when she jumps...which is often. Her coat is short and soft with the most gorgeous brindle markings. Isabella's eyes are dark and warm, and she looks at you with the hope that you have some really crazy and fun thing to do....which hopefully includes running in zoomy circles. She has a goofy smile on her face most of the time.
Isabella seems to have had very little guidance on how to be a polite family member. She is exuberant in her greetings, which means she jumps. We have been working on clicker training and positive reinforcement training techniques, and she is responding very well. She just needs more lessons from a calm and patient coach who is willing to use force-free methods to help her understand how to behave properly in this crazy and sometimes confusing human world.
Izzy was a stray who avoided capture by Animal Control for quite some time. She had obviously been on the streets for a while. When I first met her, she was very timid and leery of new things. She was afraid of the hose caddy in the shelter exercise area. But with a little time and the knowledge that someone was there to watch out for her, she found her adventuresome spirit and was soon ready to face the hose caddy :-) However, she is still lacking in confidence and is hesitant about new things.
She is full of zest and "zoom" when she gets to go from her kennel to the exercise area. When I take her for walks in the area around the shelter, she will head off through the grass sniffing all around. But she seldom uses more than 4 feet of the 20-food leash. She will stay close to me (almost under my feet at times), leaning into my legs when she is nervous; and she is constantly looking back at me for reassurance.
Isabella needs a calm household and a guardian who will be patient and spend the time necessary to help her gain some sorely needed confidence. She needs and deserves some pampering and time to decompress from her time in the shelter. It doesn't take her long to decide if a human is trustworthy. When she places her trust in you, it is complete....and that trust carries with it a big responsibility! Izzy is not a cynical dog. She hopes for good things. She just needs a little time to feel sure that she is safe and that you will protect her. In return, she will give you her whole heart.
