Jenna is a sweet girl that is definitely a work in progress. She improves daily, but needs a home that understands how to teach her that humans are kind. You will need to earn her trust, and that will take time. There are a few requirements for her home, the first is a fenced in yard. She loves to run, but also needs time to decompress there on a daily basis. She understands that outside is for potty, but has stage fright- especially when meeting someone new. A fence allows her the privacy that she needs to prevent accidents in the house.
She walks well on a leash, but in the event she takes a little too long smelling the roses, a gentle correction with her thunder leash is enough the get her back on track. She is vehemently opposed to being in a kennel, though in the two months that she has been with me she has not shown a single destructive tendency and now that she is house trained, there is no need for it. That said, upon her arrival she spent a considerable amount of time lying next to the bed and "hiding." She prefers to stay in the room with her human, and may take a few weeks to venture out of that room without being leashed. She is not much of an explorer, and while she enjoys her runs around the yard, she is more than content just relaxing. She can be incredibly skittish, and it takes a good while for her to trust and become comfortable with every day noises and movements. She will likely spend a lot of time pacing the floor while she gets to know you. It is normal for her, but steadily decreases as time goes on. Her thunder shirt has done wonders for her comfort and anxiety, the nice "hug" it gives her helps keep her nerves at bay.
I pull her food at bed time if there is anything left, she is an exceptionally noisy eater and enjoys a good midnight snack just as much as the next person. She still has a little weight to gain, but does so gradually as she is not interested in most treats. One exception to that is cheese. This girl loves cheese. We have started working on basic commands with it, but she still has a long ways to go with the commands as we have only just started. It took a lot of time to get her comfortable enough to even take a treat from my hand. She does well with dogs, but because of her skittish nature, she would do best in a home with mature, calm dogs. She is easily frightened, and high energy dogs are very stressful for her. She looks to her human for comfort, but has become great friends with a little beagle in my home. Having another (calm) dog around has been beneficial as it allows her to learn that it is okay to want to be loved on. Jenna would also do best in a home with calm children. She would be great in a calm home, beyond her daily runs outside, and her walks she is a lazy girl. She loves naps, and snuggling once you earn her trust. Her favorite activity is sitting on the bed, mouthing her Subaru toy and "watching" cartoons.
She is not a dog that fully understands how to be a dog, she only has one toy that she has played with-and one special treat that peaks her interest. I suspect that this will be something that may slightly change over time, but it is very possible that she will never be the type of dog that enjoys dog parks or other places with crowds. If you are an experienced owner, and willing to give this lovely little girl the love and patience to allow her the time to shine-she is worth the effort
