Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET Loosey -
Loosey is a 6.5 year old, short hair, 12 lb. black & tan doxie. About 5 years ago she was rescued and adopted to a new owner, but before that she was with an abusive owner, so she will be cautious of strangers and protective of her owner. When she gets to know & trust you she is the best sweetest doxie ever! She may nip at kids so a home without kids and cats is best. She should do well with a friendly male doxie friend. Loosey is healthy, spayed, up to date on shots and dental care. She travels well in the car, knows basic commands, and is leash & house trained. Her previous owner took Loosey on her motorcycle and she absolutely loved it! She also enjoys going for walks, the park, and snuggling with her owner under the blankets, in bed & on the couch. Loosey will be a wonderful loyal doxie for the right person, she just needs some unconditional love, patience & trust!
Loosey will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.
Like all Dachshunds, Loosey is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, Loosey needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give Loosey a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
