Dolly was obtained as puppy St. Bernard/Great Pyrennes from a friend Spayed at 1.5 yrs - shots updated. HW negative and on prevention. 2 years old. She slept with owner, a disabled veteran in wheelchair in a small house. this gal needs a big brother saint or equal size that is dog friendly and full of energy like Miss Dolly. Pets in Peril answered his request for dog food delivery and we became attached to Dolly and Ron, making him a regular client in 2017. Since that time Ron knew that the "growing" Dolly needed training, he could not control. Summer 2018 we raised money to send Dolly to SIT MEANS SIT school where she lived with the trainer for several weeks...using the communication collar. She did well and came home improved. However Ron's health declined and Dolly spent most summer 2018 at the BBDC kennel while Ron was in hospital (leg surgery in hopes of improving his mobility.) It did not help and he came home more "unable" to handle Dolly. He soon learned he could not handle Dolly (and she is not getting enough exercise) dedicated to her owner who is now bedridden. She lunged at the vet at first. Vet described her as "pent up" She has been aggressive with strangers. It helps when I take her to kennel for exercise, but, she is becoming over-protective of me also.
We tried to find adoptive family - and found the perfect SB family who drove from Detroit to meet Dolly. She was ok with couple but hesitant with 8 yr girl. He ended up lunging at her. Because it was in Ron's home, we tried a 2nd meet at neutral territory, AAA clinic. Ok at first, he finally lunged at the little girl again. The next day she also tore at mail lady's coat who she had previously liked. One day he took her for walk in his chair and she tried to chase a squirrel and pulled his wheelchair over. When neighbors came to help him up, Dolly went for them/they ran. Ambulance got Ron and Dolly went to boarding
We took Dolly to vet to make sure she was physically ok. She lunged at him at first until he became very stern. She had a double ear infection which could make her feel uncomfortable. She seems fine now and we need to find a solution. Ron admits it is a elite situation and is willing to give her up. She has been his lifeline. We find no rescue in Michigan that could give him a hope to see her again.
Dolly stays overnight at BBDC kennel, where she likes to play with the other dogs. THIS IS AN EMAIL FROM THE LADIES AT RESCUE. Clearly this gal just needs a giant yard, exercise and an experienced owner. NO kids under 15. Email me or call, dawnleemcmahon@gmail.com (610) 787-2353.
