Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lucy has a story for a past only she knows. Here's what we know:
The shelter received a call back in April regarding a dog that had been running around for some time that was scared, possibly deaf, and had an embedded collar. They dispatched two animal control officers, who were successful in bringing her to the shelter. We were then able to see just how bad her situation truly was. The collar on her neck at the time of intake was so tight and rusted shut that she was slowly being choked to death. Her entire body was covered in scars and any slight touch from a person would cause her to start trembling. We were able to remove the collar from her neck using a pair of bolt cutters and were able to see just how bad the damage to her neck was. Her skin was rotted and the poor girl had maggots in the severely infected area of her neck.
Thanks to the generous donations to our vetting fund, she was assessed and treated by a local veterinarian. It was also confirmed she is 100% deaf. Not only did her physical wounds need recovery, but her emotional state needed healing as well. The staff and volunteers worked with her to show human kindness, but she still needed out of the shelter setting to improve her overall well-being. After hearing our cry, an incredible foster family stepped up and became her saving grace.
Lucky (now named “Lucky Lucy”) has been in a foster home learning not only how to be a dog, but to learn there are some great people out there. Her current foster family has done the hard part in preparing her for her forever home, and is now having to make the difficult choice to rehome her due to health issues. This decision did not come lightly and is what’s best for Lucky Lucy.
We want to keep Lucky Lucy in a home setting if possible. Her foster mom reports she is now house trained. She also knows several hand signals. She loves other dogs, but plays very rough. She would do okay with cats that can stand up for themselves, but will chase a cat that runs. Despite rough play, she has a soft mouth and patience with people. When she gets tired of the grandkids in the house, she will simply go lie in her bed and sleep. Her foster mom adds that she has a lot of personality!
She has been spayed, is about 3 years old, and weighs around 40 pounds.
Please contact the shelter if you are interested in meeting Lucky Lucy. She deserves a lifetime of love and belonging. Please consider this very special girl!!
