Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Kandi is a 1 ½ year old well-loved female that came into the rescue in January. She was living with her mom, an older lab and a cat. She interacted frequently with children ages 2 to 6 in her previous home.
Kandi is a sweet, inquisitive, energetic girl. She loves to zoom around outside and enjoys playing catch. She also enjoys chewing on bones. Kandi will be your best friend if you give her belly rubs and chin scratches. She wants to be with her people and will follow you around the house. She is great in the crate, she just needs a little incentive (treats that have good smells like peanut butter in a kong, or bacon treats, etc) to get in it. She gets very excited for treats and jumps up and down, but once she calms down in a sit, she takes treats gently. She is very good when her people are eating, she typically sits in the family room and watches. Kandi is a counter surfer when she thinks no one is watching. She was not well trained in her previous home, her foster is working with her on her manners. As a result she will have a training addendum as part of her adoption to ensure she learns basic manners and grows into the awesome girl we know she can be. She is smart and food motivated and has already learned sit and wait. Although, she will talk back and tell you to hurry up when she is asked to wait. Kandi gets very excited for her meals and does growl when her foster sister gets close to her food. Her foster is working with her on that behavior. Her foster is also working with her on the leash, she goes for multiple walks a day and is beginning to learn that she is not allowed to pull. She is just over 100 lbs, but very strong. Kandi will only be considered for a seasoned dog owner.
She is good with strangers and is excited to greet them. She is not a big barker, but if she sees another dog walking outside, she will let you know.
She did great at her first trip to the vet, the vet even remarked how nice it was to see a Dane that was not anxious or timid. She was interested in the other dogs and greeted them nicely. Her foster does not think she has had much exposure to other dogs, because she does not pick up on signals that others want her to back off. That will come with time and exposure, but she will need to be monitored as she is still learning.
Kandi is a friendly, affectionate girl who will be an amazing companion after proper training. She will need to be spayed and wont be able to be adopted until she has recuperated. Kandi came to MAGDRL in January (5).
