Here's what the humans have to say about me:
SPECIAL NEEDS DOG: Phineas (Phin for short) is about 3 years old, a curly haired white poodle with some beige spots. He weighs 20 pounds now, is very active and loves, loves, loves to have your attention.
Phin was seized by law enforcement due to severe abuse and neglect. He went to the shelter with a broken leg and badly mangled foot that is beyond repair, underweight, and with spray paint on his filthy matted hair (see photo of his bandaged foot, which just dangles and will be amputated mid February when he will also be neutered.) The leg does not stop him from jumping and playing and running fast; the amputation will just make things easier for him. His recovery should be relatively quick because he hasn't been using that leg for at least 2 months already, and has adapted to not using it.
In spite of his past abuse, Phin is a sweet, happy and playful dog. He loves people, and gets along fine with the other dogs in his foster home.
Because his hair was so matted (see "before" photo), he had to be shaved down, and his beautiful hair is just starting to grow out. He is so handsome now and he knows it. His confidence is tip top and nothing shy about this guy. He is happy, curious, fun and has learned a lot in his foster home.
He came to us as a wild child with no previous guidance or training, therefore he is learning manners and potty training now. His foster mom is already seeing a difference. He will do anything for treats and pets, which makes for a nicely trainable dog. Phin likes riding in the car and settles right in. He might make a great companion for a truck driver. His health is good now that he is in a loving foster home with good food, has been dewormed, deflea'd and has gained almost 4 pounds in the span of a month and a half.
He can be adopted now, but it would have to be to a home with no other dogs until he is neutered and has his leg removed, or wait until mid February. He will need a calm and quiet recuperation place and adopters who will be patient with him until he learns the good manners that we all wish for in a dog. His adoption fee is $300.00 (which doesn't even cover half his vet bills unfortunately).
If you are interested in adopting Phin, or making a tax deductible donation to his vet bill, please go to our website www.k9bestfriendsforever.com and click on "adopt" to fill out an application. His vet is Cirby Sunrise Vet Clinic in Roseville, if you want to donate directly....
