Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET Buster -
Buster is roughly 10 years old, 13.5 lbs and is a red smooth coat dachshund. He is up to date on all shots, teeth cleaning, neutered and is micro chipped. He is also potty trained and knows and responds to all the basic commands. He had to be surrendered as he has a history of nipping and was living in a household with two young children. We know he has had multiple owners and suspect that he was abused in the past. He sometimes gets possessive of humans he likes (He prefers women to men). He made a lot of progress in just one month in his foster home. His forever home will need to be diligent about continuing to discourage him from his bad/possessive behavior. He's had an eye ulcer but it is all cleared up now.
Despite his troubles, he is a very loving and super sweet little doxie! He loves to cuddle, be held and shower his humans with lots of kisses! He is good with other non-alpha doxies and absolutely loves to go for walks and play with his toys. Watching him play will crack you up, especially when he sits on his hind legs and asks to be picked up and snuggled. He is energetic and remarkably athletic, and can jump up on things easily, so he is learning to use stairs. Don't let his white hair fool you, this dog has tons of energy to play and go for walks!
Buster will do best in a household:
· Can be firm with him but also loving
· That can commit to him sleeping in his crate at night
· That has no cats
· That has no kids
· Prefers women to men (will also bond with men but be protective of women)
· Where he is the only dog or is paired with a non-alpha doxie who is easy-going (he loves to play)
· That can continue to work on creating boundaries for him when he growls or exhibits bad behavior
· Will keep him on a consistent feeding, walking and potty schedule
· Can provide lots of love and play time with balls and other toys
Buster will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.
Like all Dachshunds, Buster is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, Buster needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $295, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give Buster a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
Thank You!
