My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Maizie! This beautiful, fluffy girl is a puppy mill survivor. Because she hasn't gotten to experience a normal dog's life, she is very shy and unsure. She wants to learn to be confident and trust humans, but she is having a hard time and needs the proper patience, guidance, and love to be the best girl that she can be. She likes to be petted and will actually bark for attention and give us a little "tail wag" when we talk to her or give her treats. Our current mission with her is getting her comfortable being picked up and put back down, and we are seeing progress.

Maizie will need a home that is very calm and understanding of her background. She will also want to have another dog in the family to show her around and teach her how to confidently interact with humans. She will also need an introduction to house training as she has only had brief experience living in a house.

Maizie is considered a flight risk. She gets spooked easily. This means she will need an extremely secure fenced yard that will keep her safe while she explores and becomes more comfortable with her new life.

If you are interested in giving Maizie the love and home she deserves, please go to https://www.rover-time.com/six-common-issues-puppy-mill-dogs/ and read up on the tendencies of puppy mill survivors. Preparedness is the key to helping these pups find their way in life.

Please fill out an application online and then come meet her and fall in love. Adoption applications can be found on our website at www.adoptmountainpets.org.

Please be prepared to provide the training and dedication that will be needed.

We do not have any way of knowing if a dog or cat will do well with all children or all other animals.

*** This is why it is important that we introduce everyone in the home to the new pet. Please plan to have the whole family come visit.

*** We also require that any family dogs come into meet your potential adoptee. Please be sure your dogs are spayed or neutered and current on vaccines (distemper - parvo and rabies) before bringing them to the shelter.

*** All dogs must be transported home in a travel crate to transport your new pup home safely.

*** Renters must provide a copy of a lease indicating pets are allowed or contact information for the landlord.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting one of our pets or have questions about the process please see our website at www.adoptmountainpets.org or call the Shelter between 11:00 am and 5:45 pm Tuesday through Saturday. 970 626 2273
