My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Ruh-roh, Astro!"  This boy's out-of-this-world special!

Astro is a very handsome, male German Shepherd Dog, believed to be about 3 years old.  He's about 90 pounds -- a big, strong dog with a heart of pure gold!

This dog is destined to be a once-in-a-lifetime "heart dog" for some very special person.  He is ready to bond his entire being to someone worthy of his love.   We don't know who he came into this world to find and bless, but he's surely got a special purpose for somebody.

Although he looks intimidating, he's a big softie.  He shrinks at harsh words but loves to be told what a good boy he is....and he tries really hard to be a good boy.

He loves to snuggle more than anything in the whole world.  If he mouths at a human playfully, he's very gentle about it.  There's not a mean bone in his body -- he just wants to be loved.

We think he draws self-confidence from other dogs in the home.  He loves to play rough-and-tumble with other big dogs, and he's not a push-over in dog-play.  He's also easy going with small dogs.   We really want to see him find a home with a dog-buddy.  He's living happily with cats in his foster home, and he's very respectful of the kitties.

Sadly, we think this soft soul was probably trained with harsh methods in the past.  He needs a home dedicated to positive reinforcement to boost his self-esteem.  He really blossoms with praise and rewards!  He's a great candidate for clicker-training too.

He's not much of a jogger, but he's pretty good on a leash on walks.  He's already crate trained and potty trained too.

He's recently tested negative for heartworms, after undergoing heartworm treatment over the summer.
