Benson is a cute, endearing and warm lemon Beagle mix who was rescued from the San Bernardino City Shelter. He weighs about 16 lbs. and is about the age of two. Benson is a more timid dog; he is shy and a bit weary of you if he does not yet know you. However, I have never seen any aggression. He is just a dog that needs to feel safe first and can easily be won over with treats since (typical to any Beagle) he LOVES food! Once Benson becomes accustomed to his environment, he relaxes and becomes a silly goof at times, and will play and play with his tongue hanging off to the side which always makes me laugh, or will just calmly chill near me, which offers a quiet presence.
Benson enjoys other dogs and also loves to be near the humans. He really enjoys playing with toys on his own or playing with the other playful dogs at the rescue. Overall, he is getting all of the rescue routines down pretty well and a plus is that he is not a marker either outside or inside the house. Benson is crate-trained and does excellently in his crate. He is quiet when it is time to be crated (dogs here at the rescue are crated to eat, sleep, and when folks are gone from home) and loves his little rawhide sticks at bedtime! He also LOVES food! Like most Beagles, he can sniff food out anywhere so it is best to keep all food up and away! He is a sensitive soul, so corrections do not need to be harsh or loud. Overall, Benson is just SWEET. He typically comes around throughout the day to check in with me, and rise up onto my legs to lean in for some petting and to remind me that he is still there.
I truly believe that Benson will do best in a home that has another well-socialized, friendly and confident pup to welcome Benson into his new home. Please have another dog to inquire about Benson! Benson will benefit from a good canine role model to feel more secure with his new people. Cyrus is a good match to be adopted together with Benson, because they know each other, like each other, and play well together, but it is not my expectation, nor is it my requirement, that they be adopted together. Benson will need some time to adjust to a new setting, but the pay-off will be well worth it, as Benson has a special warmth and endearing nature that is very hard not to love (he is one of my favorite dogs!)
NOTE: We only adopt dogs as primarily INDOOR dogs. Dogs can go outside to play, potty, to sun themselves at will, but should never be excluded to an outside area. You do not need to give a dog the run of the entire house, and an appropriate sized wire crate works very well during a transitional phase.
Benson is neutered, fully vaccinated, Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Benson, email Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. In the email, please provide some information about your home, family, other pets, and your dog experience. Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue is a private, home-based rescue. We seek stable homes that can provide a loving environment for the dogs in our care. There is an application process that precedes meeting a dog (applications are not online). The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue unless you do not receive a response from your email within 24 hours (evening to night emails will get a response the following morning). Please also visit my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and go to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process.
