My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Scout! He is an 11 month old possible Sheltie/Cattle dog mix. Scout weighs about 45 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all shots, and taking parasite prevention.

Scout is a true rescue. He was born to a street dog and has been saved from living the same life. Scout is doing well in his foster home with dogs, cats, and his foster family. He is playful and happy, but he could have some shy or timid tendencies since he came into rescue as an older puppy and hadn't been handled early in life. He is best suited for a home with another well socialized dog of any size and a fenced yard.

How to adopt this dog:

We are not a shelter. Dogs live in Birmingham Metro area foster homes.

1. Email were4dogs@gmail.com for an application. You must be 21 years or older to apply.

2. Tell us the NAME of the dog you wish to adopt.

3. Send back your application ASAP.
IMPORTANT: We cannot hold dogs/puppies. No apartment adoptions for dogs that will exceed 20lbs.

4. After the application review and reference check, someone will call you for a phone interview. You will learn more about the dog, it's health and habits, and we'll schedule a home visit or an adoption at that time.

5. Adoption fee of $250 is due when you take possession of your new friend.

6. Adoption fees are in Cash, MO, or cashiers check. No personal checks please.

7. Adoption contract is signed when the fee is paid, usually when we bring your new dog, unless you are out of the area.

8. Long distance possible with dogs over 12 weeks old that are fully vetted. Occasionally we will allow small breeds to adopt to their homes, but they must keep their local vet appointment when they are old enough and big enough for surgery.

ADOPTION INCLUDES:
All dogs have age appropriate vaccines, Rabies, Bordetella, females are spayed, males are neutered, dewormed, flea/tick prevention, microchipped, heartworm prevention and  heartworm treatment if necessary in adults. Your best friend comes to you with his/her medical records.

Please expect to crate or paper train your puppy under 6 months old. Our fosters have homes, families, jobs, pets, and some foster a large number of dogs to give them refuge and we are grateful. Consistency is your best tool when training your new companion animal. Doggy Day Out, dog parks, lots of socializing to people, pets, and places will help to have a well rounded and easy going dog.
