Here's what the humans have to say about me:
At approximately 4-5 months old and an all-American mutt, Groucho is quickly learning the ropes of being a well-balanced dog. He is currently fostered in a home with three other dogs, male and female, ranging in age from 8 – 15. He is gentler around the older dog and loves playing with the 8 year old, allowing her to correct him when he gets too excitable. He is a fantastic listener and drops items on command when told as he learns what he can chew and what he cannot. Groucho has learned sit and is taking to the leash well. He has also flourished with housebreaking and crate training. Groucho easily walks into his crate and sits, waiting patiently for his food or a treat, and sometimes will lie in the crate on his own with the door open. Groucho’s housebreaking has been phenomenal and he has not had an accident in the house in 5 days…well on his way to being fully housebroken.
Groucho is very much a routine-oriented dog and will do best in a home with a family who is experienced with raising/training a puppy and understands the importance of being responsible dog guardians. He easily identifies his caretaker and understands who should be in charge. While his energy level is medium, he will be even more phenomenal with a family who can provide him with adequate play time and walks. Groucho is great with kids, but because he can still jump when excited he will do best in a home with children slightly older toddlers and up. That being said, he is learning quickly and does not have an aggressive bone in his body – it is all play. An experienced family with younger children who understands the importance of both dog and child respecting space will do fine with him.
Please note that part of the success of Groucho’s early training has come with being in a home with access to a fenced in backyard and a pack to follow. While neither of these are requirements for his adoptive home, a fenced-in backyard and a balanced playmate will be a great fit for him and will be taken into consideration. We have no idea what Groucho’s true breed mix is, and make no claims to one dominant breed over another. Applicants who have any reticence about a certain breed need not apply. One thing is for sure – regardless of his breed, this guy is all love and has the potential to grow into a phenomenal family dog.
AS WITH ALL YOUNG PUPS, this puppy will need constant supervision when not crated. Puppies will chew and get into trouble as any puppy would. A puppy needs a leader and someone to teach the basics of house training, obedience, and behavior. At the ages of 10-16 weeks, puppies tend to tire easily and take lots of naps. As they get older, they will need more exercise (walks, hikes, playing fetch, etc.) to expend their energy and to be happy and healthy.

Our adoption fee is $300 and includes all age appropriate vaccines, spay or neuter and microchipping. The breed and age included in this listing is based upon the opinion of a vet that has examined the dog. We cannot confirm the age of the dog unless the dog was born in the care of the rescue. We are located in the metro Atlanta area. We currently do not allow out of state adoptions as a home check is required as part of the adoption process.
