Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Max #6 is a 2-year-old neutered male black lab. Max #6 weighs 57 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
Max sounds like an absolute dreamboat. Aside from his stunning good looks, he is very affectionate and will put his head in your lap to get some love and ask for a belly rub. He knows some commands and is a pretty smart cookie in that he knows if he puts his front paws in the crate, he’ll get a treat. He’s housetrained and does well on a leash but will need some additional training. Max loves other dogs and plays very well – he rolls over for both large and small dogs when he meets them. Max lived with 2 with cats – he sniffs and noses them to get them to play. When they don’t, he sometimes barks at them so he will do well with a dog savvy cat.
UPDATE: Max has been getting obedience training at one of our partner prison programs. He has learned basic obedience and has enjoyed playing with other dogs. When he gets very excited, he can be mouthy, but he is easily corrected by distracting, redirecting, and rewarding with treats when you ask him to do something he knows, like sit, or down. He knows lots of things now. He loves to be scratched on his back and rubbed on his chest and shoulders, and he responds well to those rewards too. Max is an active guy and will do best with a family who will take him on adventures, running, hiking, swimming. He will need to continue with his training and make sure the family reinforces all the commands he has learned and exercises him daily. Going to doggie daycare would be a plus. He will not do well in a crate for a long work day.
