Cookie is such a mellow dog and well behaved in her foster home. She has been there since February. She came to ARF from a private rescue home in Houston. She was found between 2 abandoned houses with her new born puppies. She was very fearful and guarded but easily trapped once her puppies were placed in a carrier for transport. She has always been a good momma dog.
All 5 of her puppies have been adopted. They were amazing pups and all have grown bigger than Cookie! She has been spayed and treated for heartworms. She is healthy and the vet says she doesn't have any remaining heart damage since the heartworms were taken care of early. She needs a safe and quiet home to live and grow comfortable.
She goes outside to potty and she will sleep in a crate if required. She hangs out in the foster parents bedroom most of the time if the weather doesn't allow her to be outside with the other dogs. She follows her foster mom like a shadow from room to room.
She also has a cat housemate that she does well with daily. Cookie and Miranda have even gotten into some mischief together. She has also been exposed to young kids and Cookie just goes off to her safe place if the house gets noisy.
Cookie's foster mom reports her to be low maintenance. She needs a harness and a crate to travel to the vet as needed. Cookie does not like the leash and still alligator rolls. This behavior can probably be improved but we haven't found it necessary. The stress a leash causes is just unnecessary.
Please take a chance on Cookie. She can not attend adoption events so her foster parents would be happy to have approved applicants visit her in their home. She will cautiously check you out from afar and sniff you if you aren't looking. She is quite cute. If you call her name she will even peek around the corner to look. These social behaviors are makes her "special needs." We all find her very endearing.
Cookie may never be the dog that crawls up into your lap for attention but she needs YOU! She needs safety and security. We have provided that for her and she has grown to appreciate being in a home. Now it is YOUR turn!
All dogs are in happy foster homes so you MUST set-up an appointment by calling 972-318-9650 or by sending an email to info@arftx.com.
