Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Kintsugi is named after the Japanese art form in which broken valuables like precious glass vases/pottery are put back together with gold or silver filling in the cracks to make them even more unique and precious than they were before. Sometimes people think of rescue dogs as damaged, but DC SIR knows that dogs are resilient and can be made whole again with love and patience through rescue and adoption, becoming the most unique and precious dog you’ll ever meet! Kinsugi is a puppy mill release from an Amish breeder. She stopped producing litters which is why she was released early at the age of 6 years old. Despite living most of her life in an outdoor pen, Kintsugi has adjusted great to foster life. She immediately learned to use the doggie door in her foster home and only had potty accidents on her first day in rescue. She doesn't jump on any furniture and she sleeps on dog beds. Kintsugi loves little toys and will sneak them outside. She likes to collect stuffed animals and squeaky toys! Kintsugi gets along with all the dogs in rescue and we think she would do best in a home with another dog. She is still very fearful of humans but once you have picked her up she will remain still and doesn't mouth. She also did great with her dog bath. However, sudden movements and standing will send her running for cover. Kintsugi has made a lot of progress in rescue but will require patience and someone willing to learn about canine body language and fearful dog behavior.
We are requiring a fenced backyard for Kintsugi because she is still very fearful of people and having to be harnessed and walked every day would be too stressful for her. We prefer that she have the ability to go outdoors without being handled so that the new owners can work on bonding with her at a slow pace.
Kintsugi is a sweet Shiba Inu and is absolutely loving her new freedom in foster care. We hope she will find a loving and patient family that will take the time to build her trust after a lifetime of cruelty from humans.
Please share her story so we can find Kintsugi a home for the holidays!
