Here's what the humans have to say about me:
LEON is shown in his favorite hiding place, the cat tree with the big comfy barrel. He is a big orange and white dude about four years old. Leon was rescued by MHS from another shelter where he had been on the fast track to be euthanized for “aggression”. We suspect he must have been abused somehow by his former owners, to make him so nasty.
He was moved into one of our smaller rooms to settle down, and he hissed and lunged and howled, even when bringing him food. Most of this may be fear-motivated, possibly a fear of being “cornered”, or of “hands” approaching him. Now he has been given the run of the room, and he has become calmer and more trusting since being given more freedom. He seems to be OK with other cats, and hangs out with the other free-roaming fellows in the room. With people, however, he is still wary, although some people (not all) can actually pat him now.
Leon still needs a lot of socializing and may never be a lap cat. Whoever adopts him will need infinite patience and understanding, plenty of unconditional love, and good gloves. He still swats if he feels threatened. His adopter will be rewarded with a loyal companion and the knowledge that they have given this guy a second chance at a good life.
