Here's what the humans have to say about me:
These dogs are being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.
NAME: Roxie and Layla
GENDER: Females (Spayed)
AGE: Born on April 20, 2018
WEIGHT: Roxie is about 20 pounds
Layla is about 19 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Great with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Will be great with children
OTHER: Chihuahua / Dachshund/ Australian Cattle Dog mixes (see DNA info below!)
Meet Roxie and Layla, two Chihuahua mix sisters. These two girls are energetic and fun. They are very attached to one another. They are looking for a forever home willing to adopt them together.
In mid-April, CRT received an emergency phone call from a shelter in South Dallas. They had been chasing a very pregnant Chihuahua Momma who had been roaming the streets for months. The animal control officers had finally caught her and she was about to give birth at any time. They needed a rescue to step up and take the Mommy. One of our CRT fosters raised their hand to help and we immediately went to get her. The Momma had the puppies a few days later. Roxie and Layla were sisters born in this litter.
We could tell from the moment they were born that these were not pure Chihuahua puppies. They were larger than our normal puppy size. We were curious about their heritage, so we did a DNA test on both sisters. Layla came back 25% Chihuahua, 25% Australian Cattle Dog, and 50% mix of sporting/terrier/herding breeds. Roxie came back 25% Chihuahua, 25% Australian Cattle Dog, 12.5% Dachshund and 37.5% mix of terrier/hound/Asian/herding. So these girls are quite diverse! And they are 100% adorable.
Roxie and Layla are very bonded and need to be adopted together. Both dogs get along fine with the other small dogs in their foster home. They love to run and play and tumble. They also love to play with toys of all kinds. Roxie and Layla love to run in the back yard. They are indoor dogs, but will need lots of time in the yard every day to run and stretch out. Their boundless energy would make them excellent walking or running partners (we are just beginning to introduce them to a leash). A secure fence is a must. There are no cats in the foster home but we do not think they would do well with cats as they love to chase.
Roxie and Layla also love people. They are super friendly and love everyone they meet. They run to the door to meet you every evening. Roxie and Layla enjoy crawling up on the couch with you in the evening to watch TV. They will also get on your lap for some belly rubs! They are large lap dogs – but they love attention.
Roxie and Layla are true-blue loyal, smart, ever alert, and happy girls. They are puppies and if they are not challenged, they easily become bored and can get into mischief. It is recommended that their forever home participate with these girls in some work, sport, or regular exercise to keep them mentally and physically fit. They would love to attend puppy training as they enjoy learning and making their family happy.
These girls are definitely mixes. Roxie is 20 pounds and is sturdy. She has a beautiful reddish color and floppy ears. You can definitely see the dachshund in her! Layla is 19 pounds and also sturdy. She has an amazing white and tan dapple pattern to her coat.
Both of these girls are smart. They are working on their potty training and will also use pee pee pads. They are both crate trained. They love to sleep in the same crate together and cuddle. We are beginning to introduce them to a leash so they can learn to walk properly.
These girls have a sweet personality. We are looking for a family who will adopt them together and they are very bonded. They would do best in a high energy, active home. They would be great with children. They are NOT apartment appropriate as they are too active for an apartment.
Open you heart for a lifetime of love and companionship with this pair.
