Here's what the humans have to say about me:
POPPY- Chiweenie/Female/ 11 months/ 12 pounds
Our little POPPY has been through so much in her short life and she is more than ready to find her forever family! We believe POPPY was in an abusive home before ending up in a high kill shelter in california where she was slated to be euthanized for space...through no fault of her own, she found herself as a helpless puppy all alone and homeless and afraid. She was thankfully able to be rescued at the last minute, and we have brought her to Toronto where we are looking for the perfect home for POPPY to live out her life in peace. POPPY has shown that she needs more time to warm up to new men, and caution needs to be taken in this regard as we believe she was previously abused by a male figure in her past. She is a very happy and loving little girl once she has had time to settle in and know her surroundings. The Dachshund being her dominant breed, means she is highly intelligent and should be treated as such. Positive reinforcement and lots of love is the way to POPPY's heart....and she has lots to give in return. POPPY enjoys being active and is good with other dogs. Because she can be skittish with new people as most dachshunds are, we reccommend older children over 13 years old in the home. Please email us with your completed adoption application to: admin@safehomeanimalrescue.org
(applications can be found on our website: safehomeanimalrescue.org)
Here is a note from POPPY's current foster family:
" It’s hard to believe that our Poppy was just another dog about to die in a high kill shelter. This sweet girl was an instant success in our home filled with two little dogs and curious cats. Poppy was respectful and gave each their space, despite some growls and hisses from the grumpy resident cats. Poppy was quite wary of the human man in our home. It took her a few days, but she now happily licks his face. We think Poppy would thrive in a female household. She is THE BEST nap buddy you’ll ever find. Our Poppy is fully housetrained and is quick to remind us when it’s time to go outside. Whomever adopts this precious soul needs to know that Poppy is desperate to bond with someone forever. She loves walks and never pulls on the leash. Mention a car ride and our girl is waiting by the back door to go too! She has kept us laughing with her puppy-like silliness and warms our hearts with those big brown doe eyes”
