Emma, formerly named Imogene, came to us from the shelter in San Jose. She was brought to our attention by a concerned good Samaritan, who saw a plea for help on social media, posted by San Jose Animal Advocates - see the attached video below, along with a present day video after being in foster care.
Emma's time was up at the shelter, and Lab Rescue scrambled to find an emergency foster. Thankfully, one stepped up in time and Emma was able to stay with her for five days until she was moved to a longer term foster.
It is clear Emma has suffered some significant neglect, and we're not sure how long she was wandering the streets, but it is also very clear, that she is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. Despite everything she's been through, she is incredibly gentle and ever so sweet.
She has been treated by one of our vets for skin allergies. It appears she had a bad reaction to a prior flea infestation which was left untreated. She had a lump removed from her shoulder and thankfully, that was benign. She has terrible teeth and we are working on getting her fixed up at UC Davis.
Here is what her present foster says:
Emma is doing great! She is not scratching, so no more cone collar. She is showing personality and eagerness and to me, she seems younger than 8.
What Lab Rescue Says:
We'd like Emma to go to a home where she can receive the love and attention she's been deprived of for so long. She deserves to be part of a family and have a home to call her own. She is an easy-going, calm, and sweet lady.
Emma is UTD on vaccines and is heartworm negative. Lab Rescue will be coordinating her dental care through UC Davis. She has some arthritis in her hips and takes an anti-inflammatory, as needed.
Emma would do great in a home where she won't be left alone for long stretches of the day.
Someone who's retired, works from home, or can take Emma to work with them; she'd make an excellent office mate. Emma's present fosters are retired, and Emma enjoys being in their company, taking easy walks through the neighborhood, and relaxing on her dog bed in the family room. She gets along well with the foster's other senior dog. We don't know how she is with cats, so a home without them would be best.
Emma is located in San Jose.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
