Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Barnaby was dumped on a country road near a home in rural Fairfield County where there were several well cared for dogs. He probably would have been accepted by the family, but he followed one of their dogs and decided it was such fun to chase the neighbors horses that he would do that each morning and afternoon as they were put out and brought back in from the pasture. So a call came from these friends and said what a great dog he was, but they could not keep him and keep peace with the neighbors horses. He is VERY outgoing, never meeting a stranger! He enjoys meeting new people. His head, ears, and coat look like a retriever, He is black and his coat is shiny and straight. He is the size of a Boykin Spaniel though. But oh, those piercing golden eyes are definitely a Boykin Spaniel's. (The state dog of South Carolina. Check the Boykin Spaniel Society's website.) His tail has either been docked or he was born with a stub. There is a lot of hair on that stub and when he wags his tail (which he does unless he is asleep) it looks like a butterfly or a hummingbird!!! When we got him he had some bad cuts on him and the Vet said he had probably been tangled in barbed wire. After a round of antibiotics they are healing nicely. Barnaby would love a home with kids that would play with him and then let him sit quietly beside them and watch TV or have a doggie bed beside their bed. He is quick to learn and is crate trained, although he would much rather stay beside someone. He is a very clean dog and behaves with new people, even the Vet! He rather prefers women, but will be nice to men, also. That goes for other dogs also. He is OK with inside cats who like dogs & don't run from him. He has obviously already been house trained because we have not had a single problem with him inside the house, as long as he has a few toys & a Nylabone. The Vet estimates his age at approximately 12 months old, so his estimated date of birth would be April 16, 2008.We plan to have Barnaby neutered in May. The adoption donation amount for Barnaby is $200.00 and includes his neuter, microchip, & current vaccinations.
