Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi! I’m Dottie! I weigh about six pounds and am a chihuahua poodle mix with wavy fur and a long tail. I’m looking forward to spending a long retirement in a single person household where I can have ALL of the attention. I’m a very vocal little doggie and will announce every person that walks in the room. Sometimes I make bird sounds because I get so excited or nervous. My doggie friends don’t mind me using them as a stool since I’m so small and need help reaching treats. I really like my crate and my foster mom’s bed. Because I enjoy chewing, squeakies and kongs are THE best. Sometimes I steal socks and shoes just to have them in my mouth and around me in my safe crate. My chewing is mostly for comfort so I don’t really destroy anything... except tissues and cotton balls. When I’m not on my foster mom’s chest/lap or in my crate, I love laying on the heating pad or hanging out on top of the couch. I can walk on a leash but honestly I’d rather not let my precious little feet touch the ground and just be carried. I can check out everything on our adventures when I’m safe in a bag or sling. I’m still hesitant about the car cuz I’m really a homebody and like to stay in familiar (unmoving) places. Hopefully you’re my perfect match! Contact Salemdogs@aol.com for information on how to adopt Dottie.
A special note from Salem Dogs to potential adopters: People are amazed when they get a quick response from SD. Evidently the norm is quite a delay before hearing back from the rescue group. There are a few things you can do to set yourself apart and get a quick response. 1. register your search and when a dog that matches your criteria is posted, you will be notified. Get back immediately! 2. in your first note, tell the rescue group about yourself, family, home, yard, fence, other pets, work situation, veterinarian, and why you are interested in this particular dog.
We hear so often that "the dog I wanted was taken and there was a waiting list." Improve your chances of being selected as a 10-star home for the dog by providing information. DON'T expect a response from an email that says "Is this dog still available?" or "How much is this dog?" Those are statements that indicate you are surfing and are not really serious about adopting a dog.
