Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Surprisingly, Trenton is not a Jersey boy. He came to our rescue from an Amish breeder in York County, PA, who no longer needed him. Lucky for Trenton, his owner opted to rehome him through Doberman rescue, when he was no longer wanted, vs what could have happened to him when his breeding days ended.
Trenton spent his entire life in a small pen outdoors with no change of scenery or exposure to the outside world for 6 years. He was exposed to and is good with dogs, cats, and children.
Trenton is black and rust, 6 years old, docked tail, and natural ears. Because of his lifestyle, he is extremely shy. Since arriving to rescue he has been neutered, vaccinated, and de-wormed. He is currently in a kennel and is very afraid. He trembles and stays glued to the floor. He’s getting attention from staff and volunteers at the kennel and has won the hearts of all who meet him. One of our volunteers has spent time just sitting with him, reading to him, and listening to music (he seems to like Reggae) while he calmly lays next to her. Despite all he’s been through since coming into rescue, he’s demonstrated that he has a very gentle, easy-going temperament and will be a great companion in the right home.
A dog who is as shy and shut down as Trenton is going to need several months to adjust to life in a home, but once he comes around, there is no question he will return your patience with unconditional love. We are looking for a foster and/or forever home that is willing to devote time to building Trenton’s confidence in a quiet home where he can decompress with a consistent routine and lots of positive reinforcement. In addition, the new home should understand his needs and be willing to housebreak him, teach him about a crate, and even teach him to become familiar with noises and objects he may have never heard or seen before without instilling additional fear into him.
Are you willing to give him the second chance he deserves to be doted on and loved in the forever home this sweet boy deserves? If so, please fill out an adoption application at https://www.dprpa.org/applicationform
