ADULT SHIH TZU/LHASA APSO MIX FOR ADOPTION!
Rocky, a Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso mix, was adopted out over 5 years ago and finds himself back with Kiko again in search of a more suitable home. Now about 7 years of age, Rocky was first surrendered to Kiko due to issues with young children who did not handle him appropriately. Rocky’s adopter had trouble handling his strong character, which allowed Rocky to take over. This, in addition to a new family member and a new puppy, ultimately led to his return to our care.
Rocky is in need of an experienced home with a single or couple who are able to demonstrate to him that they are the alphas, and who are comfortable correcting inappropriate behaviour. Since his return, Rocky spent a bit of time being evaluated and he is now in a foster home. Rocky has been given structure and routine, and is responding very well to verbal correction. He now seems to understand that he’s not the one in charge, and appears comfortable with not being the pack leader. It will be very important for his next caregiver to continue this “tough love” approach to ensure a successful adoption. Rocky would appreciate it very much.
Rocky is currently living in a foster home with two other small dogs and a cat, and his foster people work during the day. He weighs about 25 pounds, is housetrained, and is not destructive when left alone. Rocky would not be suitable for first-time dog owners, but will thrive in a dog-experienced environment.
Please complete an adoption questionnaire on our website if you’re interested in giving Rocky a forever home. His fosters would love to tell you all about him!
