This gorgeous young lady is Celina. Her story is a sad one, as she was turned into the shelter after her owner died and there was no one left to care for her. She lived with her owner all her life, so was understandably afraid when she wound up in a cage in the shelter, surrounded by barking dogs and no familiar faces. Her foster mom saw her picture and knew she had to save her.
Celina arrived in her foster home emaciated and very sick with kennel cough. The first week was very rough, she barely ate and was severely depressed. Her foster mom fed her three times a day and nursed her back to health. After one month, Celina was a happy dog again! She is still timid, and needs time to warm up to strangers. She has no fear aggression, she is just shy and would prefer to meet people at her own pace, rather than have them rush to greet her. Once she knows you she is warm, friendly, and wants to snuggle and play.
Celina is in a foster home with three other dogs and gets along well with them as long as they don't overwhelm her. She would do well in a home with another gentle dog or as your one and only. She is very quirky and goofy! She lifts up her front paw when she is studying something, and when you rub her butt she does a little dance and lifts up her back feet, one at a time! She loves to go on walks and she loves treats of any kind. She is very food motivated; she can sit, shake, and she is working on the “down” command. She loves squeaky toys but doesn’t seem too interested in chasing balls.
Celina is 2 years old, completely housebroken, up to date on all her shots, spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is also crate trained and seems to like her crate, but her foster family just leaves it open when they are away, so she can go in and out as she pleases. She has gorgeous soft red fur, and her eyes are very soulful. Her long legs add to her beauty. She weighs about 38 pounds, but she still needs to gain a bit of weight. She would do best in a home without small children and with someone that has the patience to allow her to acclimate to her new surroundings.
