Toby
Toby, maybe Dachshund mix, neutered, roughly 13 lbs tan, short haired, 3 years old, up to date on shots. Left front leg amputated
Toby is so stunning not just to look at but his beautiful sweet, loving personality so what makes his story so sad is, he is still the same little loving fellow after everything he has endured.
Toby was from a very high kill shelter in CA but he needed rescue immediately for being possibly hit by a car & needing medical care in the possibility of needing his front left leg amputated.
We could not bare to leave him there but we are extremely aware that major costs are involved in surgeries such as amputations but no one was coming for Toby so we got him out of the shelter & straight to our vets.
Unfortunately it was true, the damage was so severe from possibly being hit by a car & the pain he was in that poor sweet Toby needed his front left leg amputated all the way to his shoulder. We got the procedure done & by the loving care & dedication by his amazing foster mum in CA Toby adapted & recovered beautifully in his foster home in CA & then it was time for him to come to WA to his new foster home here.
Toby is neutered, possibly a dachshund mix but what he is mixed with we do not know for sure. We have spent well over $1200 on Toby’s care. He weighs roughly just over 13 lbs, is up to date on his shots, heart worm negative, chipped, loves all other dogs, great with people, we have not had him around children but he does really well around teenagers & we have not had him around cats before. It’s mandatory for Toby to go to a forever home with another very playful dog in the home as he loves the companionship of other dogs.
Toby’s foster mums both said he is very affectionate & playful loves to be with you & loves to play with other dogs. He plays & plays with his foster brother Peter & having his leg amputated has made no difference to his quality of life & he has adjusted quite well.
Both foster mums also said he walks well on a leash & Toby enjoys a good car ride in a car seat, he does not like crates at all so in his new home it has to be a crate free home.
Toby has not been around cats since being in the rescue but it’s always up to the new family to be responsible with their animals together & we have not had him around small children so this would be up to the new family to be responsible with.
We do not know for sure what breed Toby is & it’s always up to the new potential family to look at the pictures & decide what they think his breed is.
As with all of our rescues & Toby’s friends he will need work on potty training & training, so this should be something the new family would be willing to work on & commit to. Please do not submit an application if you are not willing to commit to one of our rescues care for their whole life & that includes if they need training. We would also never say one of our sweet beloved rescues are potty trained. Our rescues need homes where the people are understanding of their past & what they have been through & what they will need in their daily lives & not willing to give up on them & if they do need training will in fact take them to training.
Please only submit an application if you are truly interested in adopting Toby & going through the process and have read his listing fully to the end & are interested in adopting. If you are not responsive to our calls, emails or your references do not respond we will move on & remove your application from our system. You must be willing to go through our screening process which includes your references being checked, a phone interview & a home visit followed by a meet and greet & if it’s a good fit, up to our discretion. We will only be accepting applications for Toby that meet all the requirements for this adorable little fellow.
Once we find the right home for each little soul we work fast, within days so the dogs can go to their forever homes in quite a timely manner. We do not hold onto dogs for people as our goal is to save lives. We also cannot respond to every application unfortunately.
Toby has an adoption fee of $685 & is ready for his forever home.
An application must be filled out before consideration for adoption. Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to commit a lifetime to him/her. We are an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit group of animal lovers. Our adoption fee is non-negotiable as we need these funds to pay our current medical bills for our dogs as well as any future dogs we rescue as well.
As an adopter, you must be prepared to accept the fact that these dogs are rescues and, just like you and I, they all have their own individual personalities. In most cases, these little ones have been through a difficult journey that started when their family gave them up or they became lost. They may have been under stress, neglected or even abused in their past life or frightened by being left alone on the streets to fend for themselves.
Our number one focus is finding these little loves a wonderful forever home with a family who is going to care for them and show them what it is like to be loved, a safe environment, a full belly and a warm bed. These sweet babies do not ask for much from you but they may require a little patience and understanding.
