Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Name: Fuzz Lightyear
Age: 2 years old
Breed: Pomeranian
Size/weight: Small, 17lbs
Bio/Socialization: Fuzz has so much love to give, he can barely contain himself. He'll sink into your lap and gaze up at you adoringly. He enjoys people, the company of other dogs, cats and living in a calm, quiet home. Fuzz travels well, willingly gets into a car, and does well on outings. In Fuzz's previous home, the families way of disciplining him was by to be rough and hands on. Fuzz responds best by verbal praise and directives. When Fuzz first meets new people, he needs a slow introduction; he does best when someone gets onto his level and talks nicely to him. People that rush toward him and stand over him, is too intimidating and he will bark, growl and may even try to bite. Also, if someone comes up behind him to pick him up without a heads up, he will growl because he is scared. He prefers not to be picked up and that's okay!He wants to be picked up on his terms. Due to his history/size, we are teaching Fuzz to jump up on command and catch and release toys/food on command. Fuzz knows how to sit, stay, play fetch, release toys in command, and is learning lay down. He is smart and his adoptive family should be prepared to continue teaching and teaching him new tricks. It would be great for him! Fuzz is from Georgia and currently resides in a foster home. He was moved to NY to raise his chances to find his forever home. He has been a joy in his foster families home and it is clear he will make the right family very happy. We feel as if Fuzz would do best in a predictable home without children, as children are not always able to read a dogs social cues. Fuzz is house trained but will also use wee-wee pads if he is given that option. Fuzz loves his crate, and will go in on command. When he is in his crate, it's his man cave. He also walks nicely on a leash!
Here a the rescue, Fuzz, his foster family, and trainers have been working hard on his behavior issues. Although he is calm and friendly when meeting people on a leash, he is protective of berries and can seem a bit fierce on the other side of the fence or gate. Fuzz is by no means a perfect dog* He has his quirks and he bitten before, so he needs a very understanding person who is willing to work with on his issues because he has the potential to bite if provoked. However, Fuzz never bites "unprovoked", he gives people fair warning if he is uncomfortable. He will put his fears back, get wide eyed, and cower. If you back off (honor his resistance) he immediately returns to his happy baseline.
Please email Ambersangelsrescue@yahoo.com if you are interested in adopting! You can also text Amber at (914)-980-9256 to arrange a phone interview prior to filling out the adoption application. Text can be sent between the hours of 9AM-7PM.
When you email or text please tell us a little bit about yourself, home, and lifestyle so we can get down to it, and see if Fuzz would be a good match for you!
