Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Spencer needs a foster home or a possible foster to adopt situation or adopter. He is such a darling boy and a real love bug. Once he knows his person he flops over on his back for belly rubs. He's been through quite a lot. He came from the south(Louisiana)from a horrible shelter(found as a stray)where he was going to be euthanized. He was adopted for a few months and then returned. Their reason...he was too big for their house. Yep, you read that right! He was then back on death row. That's when we stepped in. However it doesn't end there. He ended up getting adopted into a wonderful home in Upstate NY with a few dogs. Introductions went great but a few months in, the adopter's dog decided he didn't like Spencer. He started a couple of small tiffs with him and then he attacked Spencer, who had to go to the vet and get several stitches. Of course, after this event we took him back in to heal and eventually look for his new forever home.
Here at our rescue we have a lot of pups and he does great with all of them except the males. He only accepts all of our girls. So due to all that he went through he will try to fight with a male as a protection mechanism.
So the solution is simple. He needs to go to a home with an easy-going female or two, preferably medium to large girls since he LOVES to play and he's a big boy...this is preferable. However, he needs to go with a well adjusted female...one that is not mean. Or, he needs to go to a home with no pups. He really is just a happy go lucky boy so we'd love to see him in a home with a girl that needs a buddy.
He does great with kids but he's a big boy so we would prefer older kiddos. He seems to be neither here nor there about cats. In fact, when he was briefly in a home with a cat, he went the other way because it scared him!
Once he gets to know his people he can get a bit protective, which I honestly think is a good thing. When someone comes over to visit, he does best if he goes behind a gate to observe and see that the person is not a threat until he is not barking. Then he can come out and meet them.
He loves his walks or playtime. I would love to see him go with someone that is home more often than not. Perhaps someone who works from home or is retired. He is a very gentle calm dog and would be a great protector for someone who lives alone. He would be happy just getting walks or playing with a buddy in the yard or he would make a great hiking or even running partner.
At Auggie & Company we believe that the fit must be right for the adopter and the pup. We are not pushy when we try to place pups. We are even open to someone trying the pup out for a few weeks. Would you like to open your heart and home to this darling boy?
