Here's what the humans have to say about me:
American Cocker Spaniel/ 8 years young/ Male/Toronto Shelter Dog
Temperament: Affectionate, loving, adorable!
Activity level: Medium; Loves to walk but will snuggle up at home with you.
Vetting: Up to date with core vaccines and bordetella, neutered, microchipped, dewormed, fecal (negative for parasites), 4dx bloodwork negative for heartworm & three tick borne diseases (Ehrlichia; Anaplasma and Lyme); on tick/flea/heartworm prevention. Diagnosed with dry eye so will need drops in both eyes for life, has chronic ear infections which he is currently being treated for and is on a hypoallergenic diet to help manage his food allergies. It also has been recommended to give Louis a foot bath 3 times a week to help him stop licking his feet. A full wellness blood profile was done; which came back all normal but he may eventually develop thyroid issues as it is on the borderline of a low reading. Good news is we have him on a strict diet to lose weight which should help keep his thyroid levels normal.
Housebroken: 100%
Good with dogs: Amazing!
Good with cats: Not tested.
Prey drive: None.
Good with children: Yes, older dog savvy kids.
Separation anxiety: None.
Crate trained: Not needed.
Resource guarding: None.
Barky/noisy: No.
Leash etiquette: Pulls on leash but getting better!
Transportation: Great in car!
*Comes with 6 weeks of pet insurance - $500 coverage.
*Louis bio may change as we get to know him better.
The world has a history of great Louis. Louis Armstrong, Louis Riel, Louis Vuitton, Louis the vegetarian vampire from Interview with the Vampire, and now, Louis the Rescue Dog at Coveted Canines. This super cute fluffy guy is looking for a new home with an owner who knows how to provide firm leadership, and of course, lots of fun.
In his foster home, Louis is described as a medium energy dog who is loving, curious and fun. He’s cool with city living, adores snuggling and being close to his people. Louis loves being outside, although it’s not recommended to have Louis off-leash in an unfenced area, as he thinks running into the street is a pretty good idea. On leash, Louis needs a strong leader, both physically and in terms of energy. Louis needs to work on leash pulling, so he’s best matched with someone who can handle that in terms of dog experience and physical strength.
Just like the great Louis Armstrong, our Louis can also occasionally be a vocal guy. If he hears dogs barking or birds chirping, Louis will sometimes respond with subtle barks and grumbles (pesky birds!). Louis also uses his voice to complain if he wants something he can’t have, like your bagel, or the human bed.
Louis is fine being left for a work day however he would rather be your fur-sidekick, so working from home occasionally, or being able to give Louis a dog walker, is his ideal scenario for his new life.
Are you the right human to show our Louis that it is indeed a wonderful world? If so, contact adopt@covetedcanines.org
