Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Otis is unfortunately needing to find a new home due to his owner having a serious medical issue which required he be hospitalized and there was no family members about to care for Otis. He is a very friendly boy, affectionate with everyone and gentle with young children. He knows his basic commands but may require some further training. Otis is 3 years old.
Here is what Otis' foster family had to say about him:
Otis is one giant bundle of love! He always wants to be around his people with a wagging tail. Either laying down on the kitchen floor or sprawling next to you on the couch. He is playful and has made us laugh with his antics but inside his big brown eyes, you see a highly intelligent soul. Otis seems like a healthy young dog. I would say Otis is a moderate energy dog.
Otis is wonderful with everyone he meets. He is gentle and sweet with my children and was wonderful when my 4 years old nephew climbed on top of him. I believe he would be suitable for all ages. Otis is not a shy dog with anyone. I have not experienced any aggression with Otis. Otis would enjoy a playmate to run around with, but would need supervision at first. He is currently guarding all kitchen counters but that may change as he becomes more secure in his environment. It is unclear how Otis would behave around a cat.
Except for a little whining, Otis was fine when I left the house. He has shown no fears or anxieties. Otis loves to chew his toys and play with his red ball in the yard. He also likes to take long naps on the couch but I think he most likes to be around his humans. Otis has a low activity level in the home. He is overall quiet in the home.
Otis is a big dog who is very clever. He will climb your counters or tables, but it will be to get his toy. He hasn’t stolen food but he is completely aware where there is food. Otis came from an unfortunate situation where he had to fend for himself at times but is respectful when he is fed properly. He only chews his toys and things given to him. Otis knows some of his basic commands like sit, stay, off, and move. Otis is fully house trained. Otis is crate trained and though I would feel comfortable leaving him loose in the home, I choose for now to keep him crated while I am away. He has been crated for up to 6 hours and seems fine.
Otis will need training on leash. He is a large dog and he pulls hard. I am working with him to correct this behaviour but he will definitely need more training in the future. I will try him on a gentle lead tomorrow. Otis does try to escape the front door but I believe once he believes he has found his true forever home, this will stop. One concern with Otis is this boy managed somehow to jump a 7 ft fence into a neighbor's yard. I did not see when and how but I did find him on the other side. He rides fine in the car although he doesn't settle.
Otis is such a sweet boy who only wants a forever home, nothing more. A family who will spend time and play with him. He wants love and to shower you with love with the occasional jump up and kiss. He is a big boy so would probably love a large yard to play in. He is a gentle soul but will definitely need leash training because he is also quite strong. Otis would fit in all home environments except the elderly. He will definitely need a strong arm when on walks until his pulling is corrected.
