Sweet young Ellie has a hard-luck story but she hasn't let a rough, sad past put a dent in her enthusiasm for life. Ellie is a happy, exhuberant 2-year-old, 12-pound Papillon mix. We have no idea what she's mixed with but she is long, so Dachsund is a possibility, but she also resembles some spaniels. Whatever breed crossed paths with a Papillon in Ellie's case resulted in a uniquely pretty girl with the beautiful ears of a Phalene (drop-eared Pap) and an adorable zig-zaggy blaze on her face.
Ellie was taken off the streets by animal control. She had clearly very recently given birth but no one looked for the puppies. Her owner was contacted and said she'd been gone for awhile and he didn't want her anymore, so we rescued her from the shelter, where she was spayed while still producing milk for her lost puppies.
Ellie looked pathetic when she was in the shelter but she now wears a perpetual smiley face and is as playful as if she were a puppy herself. She loves to play with toys and will fetch. She is good with other dogs and would do well with a lively doggy playmate. She loves cats and does not understand when they don't want to play with her like a dog. She is good in the car and on a leash (loves long walks). She is friendly with strangers but protective of her house and her people. She is not a big barker but is a good watchdog. She is also a good lap dog. This is a very loving, lovable, smart dog who will make someone a wonderful companion.
Ellie needs a forever home with a secured yard (tall fence) where she can run and a home where her people will not leave her lonely all day. She is crate-trained but craves companionship. She is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on shots, hardy and healthy. PLEASE NOTE: Adoptions are in SoCA only. Ellie will not be adopted to a home with children under 6 or a big dog. If you may be interested in adopting Ellie, please email us at PapRescue@aol.com and we will send you an adoption application.
