Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Shadow #2 is a 4-year-old spayed female black lab. Shadow #2 weighs 51 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
Shadow was a neighborhood dog that showed up and was being fed by a few families in the neighborhood. One of the women took her to be spayed and got her rabies shot but never took her into her home. A new family moved into the neighborhood that did not like her running around so she was finally turned in to Animal Control.
She needs to be in a rural or suburban environment - preferably a single family home with a fenced yard. She also needs to go to a home with another dog.
Shadow is an incredibly sweet girl. Her foster home has learned so many new things about her. Shadow feels most comfortable around females, and so should be adopted to a mostly female household. She's still very timid around men, but she has made good progress, it's just very slow going! So any male family members and/or kids need to be very patient and move slowly around her. She's starting to wag once in awhile for the males in the house, and she also will now let them walk her on leash. She greets male visitors as long as FM is close by. Shadow does not want to be crated, and she does well uncrated in the house. She will need to go to a home with another dog so she has a companion and someone to play with. Having another dog around helps her confidence, and she loves to play wrestle and run with them. She keeps bugging the resident 11 y.o. male lab to play but he doesn't want to wrestle, so we've been having lots of play dates with other dogs and going for lots of long walks to help her stretch her legs.
Shadow doesn't quite know how to play with humans yet. She has learned to sit and shake. She knows the word "no" and will drop what she might have picked up to chew, and she won't go back to it. She's doing a great job learning all these new things, and is looking forward to a forever home who can be patient and loving with her while she continues to learn!
UPDATE: Shadow gets braver every day! She continues to be more comfortable with women and loves getting and giving lots of cuddles, kisses and hugs with the female member in the house. She’s timid with men, although she warms up slowly if they are patient, soft-spoken and move quietly. She is friendly with visitors as long as her female human is with her. Shadow is looking for a home with her humans who are home more than not and does not want to be left in the crate when no one is home. Shadow gets along great with all dogs and continues to be looking for a home with another dog. She doesn't know how to play with humans but loves to wrestle with other dogs. She loves bully sticks and fish chews but doesn't really know what to do with dog toys, although she will sometimes briefly play tug of war. She loves to stretch her legs with a good run and loves lots of long walks. She will also happily hang out quietly and snooze for hours. She sleeps through the night. She takes treats very gently and will sit, shake and is working on lay down. She has perfect house manners. She rides well in car and is great on a leash. Shadow will continue to flourish in a home with lots of love and patience!
