My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jericho is a 3 year old, neutered male, smooth-coated Border Collie cross. He is great with people and other dogs and was surrendered to our daycare at the beginning of September as his owner did not have enough time to commit to him. He was adopted to a nice family, but unfortunately the adoption did not work out and Jericho came back to us in December.

Jericho is also very sensitive to the energy of his humans and requires a confident owner: if his handler is anxious, Jericho will become anxious himself and may exhibit reactivity on walks and in the home. With a confident handler, Jericho is an absolute doll and did not show any issues, but he does have a history of leash reactivity and separation anxiety. We also think that Jericho will likely do better in a quiet, residential or rural area, rather than a busy, urban neighbourhood. Jericho has a lot of energy so he needs to be kept mentally and physically stimulated, and would benefit from an active home. He has lived with children in the past, but he does jump a bit, so a home with older kids is preferred.

Here are a few things that Jericho's foster family had to say about him:
• Good listener who understands most commands.
• Sleeps through the night.
• Greets everyone who comes to the door with a dog “hug” and then runs around in small circles at the door because he’s so happy to see whoever is there. He does this EVERY time someone comes to the door even if it’s us coming and going.
• Curious.
• Walks well on a leash
• He is sooo affectionate. He follows us throughout the house.
• If he’s bonded with someone in particular, he’ll paw at the door if they’re in the bathroom or somewhere or cry for them.
• Sleeps on his mat throughout the day when he needs a break.
• When I let him wander around outside the house in a gated area – like going out our front door and then around the back – he always comes back when I call him.
• We make him sit at the front door when he leaves and comes back in, and wait for the adults to come in first.
• He like car rides.

Jericho is a great dog and has so much love to give. Adopters must be committed to using non-confrontational training methods as we do not condone the use of choke chains, prong collars, shock collars, or physical corrections, nor pack theory-based methods such as pinning, or alpha rolls. Jericho is microchipped and his vaccines are up to date. His adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in giving Jericho his forever home, please submit an application at http://adventureden.ca/foster-adoption-application/.
