Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Chip (aka Chip Gaines) is a 4 to 5 year old, 15 pound Shih Tzu/Poodle Mix. This happy little guy will melt your heart! You need only to make eye contact with him and that tail starts wagging. Chip was picked up by Animal Control as a stray and spent some time in shelter, but it’s obvious that he was someone’s pet. He is housebroken, knows basic commands, and does not need (nor likes) to be crated. He makes himself right at home at the foot of your bed and wants to be your constant companion. Chip is very happy being part of a family, greeting guests, meeting new people and dogs, going for car rides, going to visit grandma, neighbors and pet stores. He loves chasing tennis balls, going for walks and watching birds.
Chips acts very confident but he has been through a lot in his life and is slow to trust and adjust. He needs someone to be patient with him and reassure him that he is safe and will not receive physical punishment. He’s independent and likes to decided when he’s ready for affection, to be picked up or snuggled and he needs someone who will understand and respect that. He will give a short growl if he’s not ready for that. After a few weeks (or sooner) your patience will pay off and your heart will melt the first time he jumps into your lap, moves in for a morning belly rub, or wiggles his whole body while celebrating your return from the grocery store.
Chip is not food aggressive and waits his turn patiently at feeding time and treat time and has greeted every dog he has met in a positive manner. If he is sharing his home with other dogs, the introduction should me made slowly. Chip is friendly but can be nervous and defensive if other dogs are rough housing or excited. His foster brother and sister are very passive and tend to let Chip run the show. Patience is the key to make a good transition for Chip, but once he feels safe, he will be a happy family member.
Chip can be left alone for long or short periods of time with no destructive behavior or accidents. Being in the same room with someone he loves is a must and he is not thrilled to be left outside alone. His coat is extremely soft and non-shedding.
Chip is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention, up to date on all vaccinations.. Chip has been diagnosed with juvenile cataracts that will need to come out at some point. He has one medium in one eye and one very small one in the other. He can see around each of them at the moment. They can be removed once they are fully formed. Chip’s adoption fee is $375.
